National Night Out 2026

Join your local law enforcement friends for an evening of community fun at Southside Park in Martinsville! Thank you to our co-hosts, the Martinsville Sheriff's Office, the Henry County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police. National Night Out is FREE admission and is aimed at bringing law enforcement and neighbors together. There will be FREE food, drinks, and giveaways available!

The event will be headlined by a wiffleball tournament among local officers, deputies, and troopers!

There will be vendors on site, community resources, and activities for the whole family. Parking and shuttling from the upper lot will be available to ensure all can make the event. Please come out to meet with your local law enforcement and interact with vehicles and equipment!

UPDATE: Second Arrest Made in Martinsville Homicide

Martinsville, VA – On June 13, 2026 officers from the Martinsville Police Department and United States Marshals Service located and arrested De’Corrius Thompson. Thompson had been wanted in connection to the May 12 murder of Marcie Hunt.

Acting on a tip, Officers went to a home in the 1300 block of Hillcrest Road, just outside the city limits of Martinsville. At that location, Thompson was taken into custody without incident.

Thompson was charged in Martinsville with first-degree murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Additionally, Thompson was arrested on outstanding charges from Henry County (felony probation violation) and the Virginia State Police (malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, use of firearm from a vehicle and maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle). These charges were not related to the May 12 Martinsville incident. He is being held in the Martinsville City Jail without bond.

Thompson’s arrest follows the arrest of Kaniya Finney on May 27, 2026. Finney was charged with accessory to first degree murder and accessory to malicious wounding.

Congratulations to the graduates of the Entry Level Law Enforcement Session #35 of the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy. In particular, we want to say how proud we are of MPD's own, Officer Ryan Radcliff!

Traffic Alert: On Wednesday, June 10, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mulberry Road from Spruce Street to Rives Road will be closed for Southwest Virginia Gas paving.

Martinsville & Henry County Torch Run for Special Olympics is this Saturday!

You do not have to be law enforcement to join the cause!

There will be shuttles, water, and food available. Come run, walk, or bike with us!

Join Us for the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Virginia!

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., law enforcement officers and community members will come together to support the incredible athletes of Special Olympics Virginia.

The run will begin at the Martinsville City Police Department and finish at Jack Dalton Park beside the Henry County Sheriff's Office.

Everyone is welcome to participate! You can run or walk as much or as little of the route as you'd like, and family and friends are encouraged to join us.

For those who wish to leave their vehicle at Jack Dalton Park, a shuttle will be available at 8:30am before the event to transport participants to the starting location at the Martinsville City Police Department.

Whether you're participating, cheering on the runners, or simply showing your support, we would love to see you there as we help raise awareness and support for a truly great cause.

2-year-old Omarion Smith has been located and is safe.

Kaniya Finney is in the custody of Martinsville Police for accessory to first-degree murder and accessory to malicious wounding.

De’Corrius Thompson is currently wanted by Martinsville Police for first-degree murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Crimestoppers has obtained funds of $1,000 leading to the apprehension of De’Corrius Thompson. An additional $500 has been obtained if you have any information as further evidence to this crime.
