Today marks the 18th anniversary of the End of Watch of Sergeant Paul Starzyk, who lost his life in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence incident.

We honor Sergeant Starzyk’s courage, service, and ultimate sacrifice. His dedication to protecting our community will never be forgotten, and his legacy continues to live on within the Martinez Police Department and the community he served.

We remember Sergeant Paul Starzyk today and always. 💙

A little celebration post for two very deserving members of our team! 🎉💙

Last week, we had the chance to recognize Officer Hall as our Officer of the Year and Jaclyn Ditty as our Professional Staff Member of the Year! 🏆👏

We’re so lucky to have both of them on our team and truly appreciate everything they do for the Martinez Police Department and our community.

We would also like to thank the Martinez Lions Club for continually supporting our employee of the year awards event with a delicious dinner!

Congratulations, Officer Hall and Jaclyn — this recognition is very well deserved! 💙

UPDATE AS OF 1:56pm: All clear for prior Avoid the Area alert at Alhambra Wy/ Muir Station Rd. Some Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office and Lafayette Patrol cars will still be on scene.

Police activity and helicopter in the area of Alhambra Wy and Muir Station Rd. Please avoid the area.

PRESS RELEASE- AUGUST 6, 2026:
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION ON FRANCIS CT

On August 6, 2026, at approximately 5:09pm, the Martinez Police Department received
multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a subject who was reportedly stabbed on Francis Court in
front of a residence.

Officers responded and upon their arrival they located a 68-year-old male, identified as
Todd Stewart, on the ground with injuries consistent with being stabbed. Fire and
medical responded, but the subject was declared deceased at the scene.

Detectives from the Martinez Police Department Investigations Bureau responded to the scene along with crime scene investigators from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect fled the scene in a Cadillac SUV vehicle. The suspect and the vehicle are
pictured below.

Thank you to everyone who came out to National Night Out at the Martinez Marina! 🚓💙

The Martinez Police Department had a fantastic evening connecting with our community, meeting so many wonderful families, answering questions, and sharing in the fun. It was an incredible turnout, and we’re grateful to everyone who stopped by to say hello.

Events like National Night Out remind us how special our community is and how important these opportunities are to build relationships and strengthen the partnership between our officers and the people we serve.

After successfully graduating from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Basic Academy, we’re proud to officially welcome our newest officers, who were recently sworn in and are ready to begin serving the Martinez community.

We’re also excited to welcome one of our newest lateral officers, who brings valuable experience from another law enforcement agency. We are grateful to have them join our team.

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July, Martinez! ❤️🤍💙

This morning, we were honored to be part of another wonderful Fourth of July Parade through downtown Martinez! Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on the participants and celebrate with our community. We’re excited to share a few of our favorite moments from this morning’s parade! 🇺🇸🎉

If you’re heading to the Martinez Waterfront tonight, we hope you enjoy one of our community’s favorite traditions—the annual Fourth of July fireworks show! The professional fireworks display begins at approximately 9:30 p.m. at Waterfront Park. We encourage everyone to arrive early, be patient with traffic, and celebrate safely with family, friends, and neighbors.

As you celebrate, please help keep Martinez safe by leaving the fireworks to the professionals. Personal fireworks are illegal in both the City of Martinez and throughout Contra Costa County, and together we can help prevent fires, injuries, and unnecessary calls for service.

Our officers and professional staff will be out and about throughout the holiday, working to keep our community safe. If you see us around town, don’t hesitate to say hello or give us a wave! 👋
