Recently, I had the opportunity to spend some time in Mill Valley and noticed that hardly anyone in this very popular cafe was on a laptop. How could this be? In fact, people were sitting and having actual conversations. . .

Sworn testimony delivered to the U.S. Congress by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper raised eyebrows on Tuesday as he acknowledged publicly for the first time that surveillance agencies are almost certain to exploit (if they aren't already) the increasing number of web-connected devices…

International EMF Scientists Appeal to the United Nations WHO’s conflicting stance on risk needs strengthening, says 190 scientists
May 11, 2015 10:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time
NEW YORK --(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today 190 scientists from 39 nations submitted an appeal to the United Nations, UN member states and the World Health Organization (WHO) requesting they adopt more protective exposure guidelines for electromagnetic fields (EMF) and wireless technology in the face of increasing evidence of risk. These exposures are a rapidly growing form of environmental pollution worldwide.
The “International EMF Scientist Appeal” asks the Secretary General and UN affiliated bodies to encourage precautionary measures, to limit EMF exposures, and to educate the public about health risks, particularly to children and pregnant women.

Scientists and safety advocates say Health Canada new rules do not take into account many new studies on the safety of cellphones and other wireless devices.

This Op Ed from the Select Board Chairman in New Fane, VT describes exactly why telecom facilities siting authority taken away from local government and vested in a state agency never works for citizens. There is a similar history in Connecticut where siting authority rests solely with the Connecticut Siting Council since 2000.http://vtdigger.org/2013/02/14/mack-cell-tower-approval-process-undermines-democracy/

Cell tower proposals have intensely occupied the the town of Newfane for the past four months. The process as it has unfolded provides a disturbing example of how corporate interests exercise undue control over public resources and democratic processes.

Health concerns were allowed consideration in this FirstNet siting process in Los Angeles because it is a public safety LTE wireless network. That is not the case when the LTE network is for consumer communications. Bravo to everyone who persevered on this effort and won this battle.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) said it has halted payments for Los Angeles' LTE network for public-safety workers after regulators there voted to halt the construction of the network.
