The 14th Annual New Castle County EMS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survivors Reunion was held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Brandywine High School in North Wilmington.

This year’s reunion celebrated over 30 cases of sudden cardiac arrest from 2025 where patients were successfully resuscitated by first responders and ultimately walked out of the hospital with no neurological deficits.

Hosted by our partners at , this amazing event recognizes both first responders and bystanders for their life-saving efforts. Over 250 individuals were recognized this year. Among them, 30—yes, 30!—of our own amazing Mill Creek staff members were recognized, some receiving multiple awards. We couldn’t be any more proud of the hard work our members put in every single day. Thank you all, and congratulations to everyone who was recognized!

We are incredibly grateful to receive a $500 donation from Buffalo Wild Wings through their Team Up for Kids program.

Pictured are Erik Gilley, Unit Leader for North Buffalo Wild Wings, and Clark Anderson, General Manager of Christiana Buffalo Wild Wings, who presented the check this morning to President Mike Lennon and Career Staff Captain Mike Emmell. We truly appreciate their support of our department and community.

While we would have loved to have more of our members present, our crews were actively handling multiple calls at the time—just another reminder of the dedication of our team to the community.

We would also like to give a special thank you to Lori Liguori, Chief HR & Marketing Officer, who nominated us for this award and took the photo. Your support and recognition mean a great deal to all of us.

Thank you again to Buffalo Wild Wings for investing in our mission and helping us continue to serve our community.

How to Move Over for Emergency Vehicles 🚨

When you see flashing lights or hear sirens, every second counts—and your actions matter. Recently, we’ve seen an increase in unsafe responses that can delay help and cause accidents. Here’s what you need to know under Delaware law:

✅ What you SHOULD do:

Stay calm and check your surroundings.

Safely pull over to the right side of the road.

Come to a complete stop and wait until the emergency vehicle passes.

Use your turn signal so responders know your intentions.

❌ What you should NOT do:

Do NOT stop in the middle of the road – this blocks access.

Do NOT slow down without pulling over – emergency vehicles need a clear path.

Do NOT pull to the left – responders are trained to pass on the left.

Do NOT try to “outrun” or follow closely behind an emergency vehicle.

🚦 At intersections:

If you can safely pull to the right, do so and stop.

If you’re already in the intersection, continue through and then pull over to the right—do not stop in the intersection.

Failing to yield properly can lead to serious accidents and delays for someone in need of help.

Let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone—especially those responding to emergencies.

Around 2100 hours last evening Ladder 21 was alerted to standby for a Police Action at the Wawa, located at 2030 Limestone Road. While staging, a fire was reported inside the building, upgrading the response to a structural box assignment. Deputy 2 reported a single story food service facility with smoke showing establishing the Mill Creek command. All units staged at the time of their arrival due to a barricaded subject remaining within the structure.

Once the barricaded subject was taken into custody, fire suppression efforts began. Ladder 21 operated as the First Due Special service, while 21-8 managed operations on the interior. Crews located a fire in the front office and server room, which was extinguished with minimal extension. Searches of the building proved negative. The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Police and Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.
