We'd like to share a few frequently asked questions in regards to the bandshell replacement project.

Why is the bandshell being replaced?
The current bandshell has reached the end of its useful life and no longer fully meets the needs of performers, audiences, and community events. Replacing the structure will improve safety, accessibility, functionality, and the overall experience for residents and visitors.

Why is this project important for the community?
The bandshell serves as a gathering place for concerts, celebrations, and community activities. A new bandshell will support local arts and culture, attract visitors, create opportunities for community engagement, and provide a modern venue for future generations.

What improvements will the new bandshell include?
Improved stage and performance space
Enhanced sound and lighting capabilities
Better accessibility for performers and guests
Updated electrical and infrastructure systems
Improved audience viewing areas
Flexible space for concerts and community events
How much will the project cost?
The project is estimated to cost $1.1 million. A $498,000 grant from the MN Historical Society will pay for a portion of the project, the remaining costs will be paid for through donations and property taxes.

When will construction begin?
Construction is anticipated for 2027. the exact timeline will depend on fundraising, final design approval, and contractor scheduling.

How can I stay updated on the project?
Updates will be shared through city communication channels, social media, community meetings, fundraising events, and project announcements.

What is the long-term vision for the bandshell?
The long-term vision is to create a vibrant, multi-generational community space that becomes a lasting centerpiece for entertainment, gathering, and community identity for years to come.

Marshall’s Juneteenth celebration has grown into a powerful community tradition since it first began in 2020 at Independence Park. What started with the support of local businesses and cultural groups has continued to expand thanks to partners like SMSU, the City’s DEI Commission, the Marshall Lyon County Library, Viking Coca Cola, Push Play Entertainment, and many others.
In 2024, the City of Marshall officially took on hosting duties, continuing our commitment to honoring freedom, history, and community.
We’re excited to celebrate together again this year!
