Many of our local firefighters are members of TIFMAS (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System). These firefighters are assigned to strike teams, these teams are deployed across Texas to help battle wildfires. The most recent deployment was to the Ross Fire west of Ft. Worth. The map below illustrates just how much land a 90,000 acre fire covers. The other picture will give you a better indication of what these firefighters face. The firefighter, standing in front of the wall of fire, is Hallsville Fire Chief Craig Barton.

Wreck on East 80 at Pumpkin Center road. Leave early enough to avoid the area or expect some delays. Harrison County SO, Marshall Fire/EMS and ESD 3 are on scene.

Fire crews from Hallsville, West Harrison and Longview battled and early morning structure fire in the 1100 block of Mt. Pleasant Rd. Fire crews were able to quickly gain control of the fire and was able to contain it to the room of origin. Please keep this family in your prayers.

🚨 BURN BAN REMINDER 🚨

If you observe someone burning during an active burn ban, please report it at the time of the violation.

📞 Contact the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center while the burning is occurring. The Communications Center will then contact the Fire Marshal’s Office or dispatch a deputy to the location.

Please do not wait several hours and then make a post on Facebook or send a message to the Fire Marshal’s page. By this time the fire may have spread to vehicles or structures.

If you see a violation, report it while it is happening.

🔥 PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO CHECK YOUR BURN PITS AND BURN BARRELS! 🔥

With the current weather conditions, we have experienced several fires that potentially could have been avoided. These fires have resulted in significant property loss, including the loss of a residence.

If you have used a burn pit, burn barrel, or outdoor fire pit within the past month or so, please take a few minutes to check it.

Yes, a fire can smolder for weeks. 🔥

Smoldering embers can remain hidden beneath ash and debris, waiting for the right combination to come back to life. Sometimes, all it takes is a change in wind direction to turn those embers into a fire.

Never assume a fire is completely out.

If you have any doubt, drown it with plenty of water, stir it, and drown it again.

A few extra minutes of prevention could save your property — or your neighbor's.

Please stay safe, stay alert, and help us prevent the next fire before it starts. 🚒

Union Pacific and contactors worked throughout the night and into the next day clearing debris and relaying tracks. FM 2199, between Highway 80 and FM 1998 will periodically be shutdown to allow crews and equipment to safely access the site. Please avoid the area if possible and allow yourself enough time for delays or utilize alternate routes. According to Union Pacific they should have the area clear and back to normal operations mid to late afternoon.
