☆☆☆☆☆ TRAFFIC NOTICE ☆☆☆☆☆

IDOT has started the bridge work on I-70 east of Marshall around the 148-149 mile marker. This work has created lane width restrictions and one lane traffic in each direction with a crossover. Due to the width restrictions the state may have oversized load diversions in place. This can cause those loads to divert onto Route 40. Some of these load has to potential to be very large. We are sharing this so you can be expecting them. By expecting them you can be better prepared for navigating past them which may include slowing down, moving over, and in extreme circumstances pulling to the shoulder.

As the winter storm approaches may we offer this suggestion. If you do not have to be on the roads later tonight and tomorrow, then stay home. The combination of a few inches of snow, some wind, and brutally cold temperatures makes conditions dangerous and possibly deadly in the event of an accident.

If you must travel, and there are those who must, then be sure to allow plenty of extra time to get to your destination. Increase distance between you and other motorist. Make sure your headlights are turned on manually as auto-lights may not active in the day during snow. You should have emergency provisions in your vehicle in the event you get in an accident or stopped in traffic for an extended period due to road conditions or a crash. Snow/ice scraper/brush, blankets, extra hats/gloves, non perishable snacks, extra medications, hand warmers, water, flashlight, and a fully charged power bank with charging cord for your phone are a good start. Also make sure you have a full tank of gas when you begin your travel. Having these items can be beneficial in the event of an extended response time for emergency personnel to get to you for assistance.

Have a good weekend, Enjoy the snow and stay safe!

Winter Weather Watch

On August 17th, paramedic Brian Ketterer collapsed while treating a patient in cardiac arrest in Marshall. EMS Supervisor Michael Bridges immediately performed CPR on both Ketterer and the original patient, restoring Ketterer’s heartbeat with Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols. Thanks to the swift actions of Supervisor Bridges, paramedics Jason Wimbley and John Heleine, EMTs Makayla Hargrave and Rebecca Herrera, and Officer Hunter Gower, Ketterer’s life was saved. As a former firefighter, I know the bond between first responders runs deep, and I was humbled to present Certificates of Congressional Recognition to these Clark County heroes for their lifesaving efforts.
