We still have spots open for our Volunteer Orientation this Thursday from 4:00–6:00 PM, and we would love to see those seats filled.

You do not need shelter experience.
You do not need to know exactly where you fit yet.
You just need to care enough to show up.

A few hours of your time can mean a walk for a dog who has been waiting all day, comfort for a nervous cat, help at an event, an extra set of hands behind the scenes, or simply one more person reminding an animal that they matter.

We need help ASAP.

Someone found a momma dog with her four 2-week-old puppies, but the finder is currently living in a motel and cannot bring them back there.

At only 2 weeks old, these babies are far too young to safely stay in our shelter environment. They need their mom and, most importantly, they need a quiet, safe place to land.

We will provide:
🐾 Food
🐾 A crate
🐾 Vaccines and needed preventative care
🐾 Support from our team

You provide the safe space. We’ll provide the rest.

This little family needs somewhere to go today. If you can foster mom and her babies, please message us immediately.

𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬.

Last night, after countless sightings, failed attempts, close calls, litter after litter of puppies, and so many moments where it felt like we might never get the chance to help her…

𝐖𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫.

Our amazing friends with 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞 came over this past week to help us make one final push, and what happened last night was the result of an entire community refusing to give up on one dog.

To everyone who fed her when she was hungry, watched for her, reported sightings, helped us learn her routine, shared our posts, and then stepped back when we asked you to so the trap would have a chance to work... 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞.

We named her 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐱 because there was no other name that felt right.

A phoenix rises from the ashes.

And after years of surviving the streets, the heat, the cold, the hunger, the pregnancies, the puppies, and whatever else she endured that we may never know about…𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞.

Seeing that trap door close was emotional in a way that is hard to put into words.

Because for years, we watched her survive from a distance and wished we could tell her that she didn’t have to do it alone.

𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧.

Phoenix is safe, resting, and will be receiving the medical treatment she has desperately needed for far too long.

Years of trying. Years of hoping. Years of refusing to give up.

And last night, it finally happened.

𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐰, 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐱. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧.

🐾 Celebrating 30 Years of Animal Welfare in Marshall 🐾

On August 23, 1996, Mayor Audrey Kariel signed a proclamation recognizing “The Humane Society of Harrison County Day” and celebrating the people and organizations working together to improve the lives of animals throughout our community.

The proclamation recognized the partnership between the City of Marshall and the Humane Society of Harrison County, along with the countless individuals and organizations whose support helped strengthen animal welfare in our area.

While animal welfare in our community has grown and evolved over the years, we continue to share the same goal: improving the lives of animals and supporting the people who care for them.

We’re thankful to The Pet Place for rediscovering and sharing this piece of our community’s history. It’s a wonderful reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together for its animals. ❤️🐾

Here’s to honoring the people who helped pave the way and continuing that work together for many years to come!

For a long time, we have been trying to safely trap a very smart, very elusive girl who has been living on the streets. So many people in the community have helped along the way by feeding her, watching out for her, and trying to slowly gain her trust, and we are incredibly thankful for everyone who has cared about her.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠.

We have some amazing, experienced trappers helping us, and they are getting everything set up 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘 so we can finally get this girl to safety.

She has plenty of food waiting for her inside the trap, and right now, the best thing everyone can do for her is give her space and allow the trapping team to do their job.

We know feeding her feels like helping, especially when so many of you have been making sure she has eaten for such a long time, but feeding her anywhere else right now could make this process take much longer and delay us getting her the help she needs.

We are SO close. Please help us give her the best chance possible by simply letting her be.

Once she is safely in our care, we promise we will post an update for everyone who has been following her story and rooting for her. ❤️

🐾 MPAC Is Looking for a Special Volunteer for Our Cats! 🐱

We’re looking for a dedicated volunteer to coordinate care for the cats at the Marshall Pet Adoption Center.

This is an important role focused on making sure every cat receives the basic preventive and medical care they need while at the shelter.

The primary responsibilities include:

• Using our shelter management software, keeping track of cats who need vaccinations and preventives and making sure they receive them on schedule
• Regularly checking on the cats and watching for signs of illness, injury, or other medical concerns
• Bringing concerns to shelter staff so they can be addressed promptly
• Helping ensure that no cat’s routine care gets overlooked

You don’t need to be a veterinary professional. We’re looking for someone who is dependable, organized, comfortable with cats, and willing to learn MPAC’s protocols. Training and guidance will be provided.

She's such a sweetheart!

This is Una. She needs us. ❤️‍🩹

Una was picked up by Animal Control, and we know nothing about what happened to her before she arrived at MPAC.

What we do know is what happens next.

Her badly damaged eye needs to be removed. Her injured tail will need to be amputated. And while she is under veterinary care, she will also be spayed.

It’s a lot for one little dog, but every one of these problems is something we can fix.

We’re still waiting on the final estimate for Una’s care and will update everyone as soon as we have it. In the meantime, FOMA is asking for your help to give Una the fresh start she deserves.

When we were called about a loose dog at VeraBank yesterday, we had no idea we would be meeting Goose, and about 7 incredible community members determined to help get him home safely. 🐾

Goose had slipped out of his family’s car and darted into traffic. By the time we arrived, those who stopped to help had managed to keep him corralled in one area... but the work wasn’t over. Goose was frightened, overstimulated, and still unable to be safely caught or placed on a leash.

ACOs Kaitlynn Doolan and Skylar Clark quickly jumped into action, directing everyone where to stand and what to do to keep Goose and the people helping him safe. After 22 long minutes of earning his trust with food, patience, and plenty of sweet words, Goose was safely contained and reunited with his family. ❤️

THIS is what our community is all about. Thank you to every person who stopped to lend a hand, and thank you to ACOs Doolan and Clark for using their training, patience, and teamwork to bring Goose safely home!

👏 Handling a loose dog in busy traffic requires extreme care.

Thanks to Kaitlynn Doolan and Skylar Clark, a dog wandering along U.S. Highway 80 today is safe.

These two City of Marshall Animal Control employees jumped into action and their quick response and training are being recognized.

Tonight, “Goose” is safe and he has been returned home to his owners! ❤️🐶
