The Orlean Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1972 by a group of concerned citizens. Since that time members have continued to serve the community with pride and professionalism. Now, the Orlean Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department provides fire and rescue services to a large geographic area. In the spirit of community service, members volunteer their time and talents to respond to calls as well as conduct numerous fund raising and community out-reach events.

The Orlean Volunteer Fire & Rescue Dept. (OVFRD) recently honored Mack and Peggy Baer with Life Member status, commemorating their 20 years of service as first responders. OVFRD President Jim Kudla presented the awards at a recent meeting. Peggy has served as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and Rescue Captain. Mack has served as a firefighter, driving fire apparatus and ambulance. Together they have served the Orlean Community for a combined 40 years. We thank them both for their dedicated service.

The Orlean Volunteer Fire & Rescue Dept. (OVFRD) recently honored Stephen and Stephanie Hiner for five years of service to the department. OVFRD President Jim Kudla presented the awards at a recent meeting. Stephen serves as a Board Member. They both assist with several OVFRD committees. Stephanie serves as chair of the Auxiliary Emergency Response Committee, which provides canteen services to first responders at the scene of major fire and rescue incidents.

Yesterday at the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors meeting, Fire Chief Kalvyn W. Smith, our Company 11 President James Kudla, and fellow firefighters accepted a proclamation recognizing May 17–23, 2026 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

The Orlean Volunteer Fire & Rescue Dept. (OVFRD) recently honored Becky Benoit for five years of service to the department. OVFRD President Jim Kudla presented the award at a recent meeting. Becky serves as chair of the Hall Rental Committee and is a dedicated member of the Grounds Committee, helping keep our station’s grounds looking sharp. Becky also serves as president of the Orlean Community Trail System (OCTS), which, along with OVFRD, is a key community resource.
