Greetings, fellow PHS Panthers! Happy New Year! Let's make it a year to remember.
A kind gentleman named David Foley has reached out to report that he found a Pemberton High School class ring, Class of 1965, and he is trying to locate the owner. He found it about 50 years ago outside the post office in Port Talbot town in South Wales, United Kingdom! I realize this is a long shot, but maybe we can reunite it with the rightful owner or one of their relatives.
I will post the photos he sent me today, but I'm not sure it's one of OUR class rings. It doesn't have the red stone, it's all gold. And there's no panther head on it, either, which I thought ours did (but maybe I'm remembering that incorrectly). There is a Pemberton High School in Pemberton Township, New Jersey, so I don't know if it belongs to them.
This group is known for helping -- because that's what we were taught to do -- so please weigh in. If you recognize this ring or think it's ours or not, let me know. It has the initials T.E.M. engraved inside. Do you remember anyone with those initials in the Class of '65?

Happy New Year, fellow PHS Panthers! Let's make 2026 an awesome year to remember. We know that our country is in he midst of troubled times. Some of us are going through personal and family crises, too. But we know that our parents and the wonderful teachers at Pemberton equipped us with the knowledge, the tools and the resilience to handle whatever comes our way. Don't panic! Whatever we are faced with, we can deal with it and come out on top. Let's do this!

And don't give up on your dreams! What do you want in 2026? A new home? Travel? New love? More education? Whatever it is, let's go get it!

Feel free to share your 2026 goals and intentions below. We will all be pulling for you! Here's to YOU in 2026!

Here are the segregated elementary schools the Class of 1967 wrote about:
Canaan, Carver, Dogan, Dunbar, Galilee, Green Star, Holy Spirit, J. H. Moore, Kelly and Rosenwald.

FYI: Canaan, Kelly and Rosenwald were the three Rosenwald schools built as a result of the collaboration of Booker T. Washington, founder of Tuskegee Institute, and Julius Rosenwald, CEO of Sears & Roebuck.

Galilee Elementary was in Hallsville, but it is included because the Class of 1967 has one classmate who finished her elementary years there. She came to Pemberton in the 8th grade when her parents moved to Marshall.

Booker T. Washington was written about even though it was not one of the schools that our classmates who grew up in Baptist Hill attended. It was a Black segregated school built during that timeline to house some county schools. It has a short history as a segregated school.

Please know that the history of the Black grade schools in the city limits include the schools from which they evolved, like Central, Park, Hillside.

We had an HBP Class of 1967 Book Committee that spearheaded this project. Each grade school had a committee of writers and researchers.

Now we are trying to finish up with this promotional fundraising to hire our publishing consultant to get this book to the finish line and published.

Thank you again for your support. I hope this answers some of the questions that you have. If you have any more, please let me know or just email me on our class email, [email protected].

HBP Class of 1967 took note of those who mentioned Booker T. Washington Elementary School. It has an interesting history. We included its history as a segregated school in Marshall. It was built in Baptist Hill to initially house students from four county schools and later Woodlawn students. When I talked to our classmates, some talked about having to walk past Washington to go J. H. Moore because they weren’t allowed to attend. Reading the reflections of one classmate, he said he went to Washington for one year. He lived in Port Caddo. James lived in Port Caddo, but he went to Dunbar. Washington does have an interesting history. You can read about it in our book.

Dear Pemberton Panthers, HBP Class of 1967 thanks those of you who have donated to help us get the funds needed to publish “And Still We Rise”, our history, memory and reflection of our days on our segregated grade schools campuses. We thank those of you who shared with us some of your memories. We especially thank Dr. Verdell Marsh, who went to Rosenwald and wrote the Rosenwald Chapter. We have 4 surviving 1967 classmates from Rosenwald, but we lost touch with three after graduation from Pemberton. We are in touch with one, but he is very ill. We also thank John Cox, Henry McGlothan for their input. I was blessed to interview Mrs. Lola Bell Smith and Mrs. Mary Williams who attended Rosenwald in the 40s.

The promotional fundraising will end November 1, 2025. We still need your help to raise the funds needed to get our book to the publishing consultant who will finalize the process and submit our book to the publisher.

The flyers with the information on how to help are below. Remember, we need your name, amount donated, do you want your donation published or remain anonymous. Your address is needed for us to send your free book(s) for contributing to the fundraiser. If you don’t want to print and mail the donor form, please email your information to [email protected]. If you Zelle your money, you can write your address in the “comment” section. Thanks.
