The 2026 ALICE Report is here. πŸ“Š

According to the 2026 State of ALICE Report, traditional poverty lines are severely underrepresenting the struggle. In Marquette County, 43% of our households are living below the ALICE Threshold of Financial Survival.

17% of local households live below the federal poverty line. An additional 26% qualify as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), earning above the poverty line but short of what it actually costs to afford housing, child care, food, and transportation in the U.P.

Behind these percentages are our neighbors, coworkers, and essential workers making impossible choices every single day.

Our Executive Director Andrew went down to Lansing last week to advocate directly to state representatives on behalf of our local ALICE population. We're using these findings to drive our local strategy so we can continue guiding our investments, driving community conversations, and building stronger paths to stability.

10,000 pairs of socks, 1 massive impact. πŸ§¦πŸ’›

You’ve probably heard the Bombas mission: One pair purchased, one pair donated. This week, we are seeing that impact firsthand right here in Marquette County. We just got a delivery of 10,000 pairs of brand-new, premium socks to help support our neighbors.

Clean socks are one of the most consistently requested items for local shelters and families, representing a critical part of health, dignity, and basic daily comfort.

Want to grab a pair? Here is how to get them: We are teaming up with Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions (UPHCS) for their Community Resource Fair this Friday, June 12th! We will be there handing them out, alongside tons of other incredible local resources.

πŸ“ Where & When: Friday, June 12th, 2-5 PM, Lakeview Arena, Marquette, MI
Come see us, grab what you need, and help us spread the word!

In 2023, 41% of Michigan households- approximately 1.67 million- fell below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) threshold, meaning they cannot afford basic necessities like housing and utilities. These aren't just statistics; ALICE households include the childcare providers, food service workers, cashiers, delivery drivers, and personal care aides who keep our economy running every day.

For families facing these pressures, navigating available programs and resources can be overwhelming- and that's why events like our 8th Annual Marquette County Community Resource Fair exist. Join us on Friday, June 12th at the Lakeview Arena from 2:00-5:00pm to connect face-to-face with organizations offering housing and utility assistance, including:
β€’ Community Action Alger Marquette
β€’ Efficiency United
β€’ Home of Mackinac County
β€’ Lutheran Social Services of WI & Upper MI
