Today marks 25 years since our nation was attacked, and nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the September 11th attacks. In the wake of the tragedy, Americans came together and showed the world the strength, resilience, and compassion of our nation. We stood united in support of our fellow Americans, our first responders, our military, and the families who lost loved ones that day.

Today, we remember those who were taken from us and honor the courage and sacrifice of those who responded. We will never forget the lives lost on September 11, 2001, or the families and communities forever changed by that day. May we continue to carry their memory with us and honor their legacy. We must never forget.

It was great to see the Ishpeming Fire Department unveil its new fire truck—made possible with funding secured through the state budget.

I’m proud to have worked alongside local leaders and fought to bring these resources back to the U.P. Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect our families, and they deserve the modern equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.

The Ishpeming City Fire Chief says the truck was made possible with the help of State Sen. Ed McBroom and State Rep. Karl Bohnak.

Yesterday’s approval of $50 million for the Copperwood Mine project is a major win for the Upper Peninsula.

This investment will help bring hundreds of good-paying jobs to the U.P., strengthen local businesses, and create new opportunities for families across our region. For too long, our communities have watched jobs disappear and young people leave in search of opportunity. Copperwood gives us a chance to change that.

I’m proud to stand with local workers, community leaders, and residents who fought to move this project forward and invest in the future of the U.P.

The men and women working in our correctional facilities deserve a safe, well-run work environment. I sponsored this legislation to strengthen oversight of the Department of Corrections, improve accountability, and give corrections employees a stronger voice when raising concerns.

Today, my House Bill 5921 passed the House with bipartisan support!

This legislation strengthens the role of the Legislative Corrections Ombudsman by increasing transparency, accountability, and communication within our corrections system.

I’ve had the opportunity to speak with corrections officers, their families, and families of incarcerated individuals. The concerns and stories I’ve heard are deeply troubling, and they make it clear that we need greater accountability within our corrections system.

House Bill 5921 will help ensure complaints are taken seriously, responses are timely, and the Ombudsman’s office operates with greater transparency and accountability. It also protects individuals who file complaints from retaliation, ensuring people can raise concerns without fear of being punished for speaking up.
