You will probably notice a haze over the coming days. Be cautious of the poor air quality, especially those with preexisting respiratory conditions as smoke like this can cause flare ups and difficulty breathing.
On the upside though, watch out for some beautiful sunrises and sunsets!

🚨Powerline PSA🚨

Storms like the ones we had today tend to cause a lot of power lines to fall. We get called to those to make sure people stay clear of potentially charged lines that are on the ground until Marquette BLP can get on scene to safely take care of the problem.

There are times, like today, where we might not be able to stay on scene until BLP is there due to another incident coming in. So, we will block that area using cones, tape, etc.

We know the cones are bright. We know our caution tape looks like it's decorating the neighborhood. We know you're curious.

But here's the thing...

If you see a downed power line, or a blocked off section of road/sidewalk with a line laying down in the middle of it:

❌ Please don't walk up to it.
❌ Please don't move our cones.
❌ Please don't duck under or step over the caution tape.
❌ PLEASE do not move the line!
❌ Don't tell yourself, "It'll be fine."

If we aren't going near the lines, you probably shouldn't be either. Those cones and tape aren't there to ruin your day, they're there to make sure you have another one.

If we took the time to block off an area, it's because it can be extremely dangerous. Downed power lines can still be energized, and electricity doesn't care how confident you are.

Help us help you:
Stay outside the marked area.
Keep kids and pets away.
Leave the cones where we put them.

Happy 4th weekend!
Though it might not be as hot as it has been this last week, long exposure to high temperatures can still lead to heat emergencies. Be sure to stay hydrated and stay out of the sun if you start to notice any symptoms of heat exhaustion.

Congratulations to our newest member of MFD, Probationary Firefighter/EMT-B Jovan Mercado!
FF Mercado comes to us from Marquette Township Fire Department and we are stoked to have him! Wish him luck as he goes through his orientation and probationary period over the next year!
