Multidisciplinary Public Safety Training to Take Place in Marquette
Marquette County, Marquette City, and Northern Michigan University will host a multidisciplinary public safety training next week. Training activities will take place Monday, July 27, 2026 to Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in and around Mattson Lower Harbor Park, Northern Michigan University, and Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport.
The exercise will bring together dozens of local, state, federal, and non-profit agencies to strengthen coordination, communication, and joint response capabilities. The training will involve marine safety, hazardous materials response training, as well as collaboration and coordination among participating agencies. The exercise will provide an opportunity for partners to practice working together, share information, coordinate resources, and strengthen relationships that are critical during real-world emergencies.
“Exercises like this allow our public safety partners to train together before an emergency occurs,” said Undersheriff Lowell Larson. “The goal is to build trust, improve coordination, and ensure that agencies across our community are prepared to work together when residents need us most.”
Residents and visitors in the area may observe increased public safety activity during the exercise, including emergency vehicles, personnel in protective equipment, and other visible training activities. Some activities may also generate temporary noise. The public should not be alarmed by the presence of emergency vehicles or responders in the exercise areas.
This is a planned training event. Members of the public are asked to avoid entering designated training areas and to follow any directions from public safety personnel.
“This training reflects the strength of our community’s public safety partnerships,” said Undersheriff Lowell Larson. “By training together, we improve our ability to communicate, coordinate, and support one another during emergencies.”
