Reference: 09/10/2026 Motorcycle Personal Injury Crash – Division St./ M-553

On 09/10/2026 at approximately 2359 hours the Marquette Police Department responded to a crash involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Division Street and M-553. Preliminary investigation showed the crash occurred when the motorcycle, traveling westbound on Division Street, lost control, tipped over, resulting in the driver being ejected onto the pavement. The driver and motorcycle came to rest in the intersection with M-553.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 26-year-old Gwinn resident, was transported from the scene to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of serious injuries and remains hospitalized. The driver was not wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting with this incident was the Michigan State Police, Marquette Fire Department and UPHS-Marquette EMS.

Reference: 08/25/2026 Assault – Great Bodily Harm and R & C Stolen Property arrest

On 08/25/2026 at approximately 11:20am the Marquette Police Department (MPD) responded to an assault on the sidewalk in front of the Warming Center in the 400 block of W. Washington Street.

Investigation into the incident found that 47-year-old David Rodda Jr. committed an unprovoked assault of a 28-year-old subject who was on the sidewalk. Following the assault, Rodda left the scene, but was located and arrested a short time later near S. Fourth Street and Washington Steet.

The victim was transported from the scene via ambulance to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of injuries and remains hospitalized.

Rodda was also the suspect in a larceny of an e-bike from the area of E. Ohio Street and N. Front Street which occurred a short time prior to the assault. The e-bike was recovered from Rodda’s possession. Located in the area of the e-bike larceny was another bicycle which was found to have been stolen from a separate nearby residence.

Rodda was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on the following charges authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutors Office:

• Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder (10-year felony)
• Criminal Sexual Conduct – 4th Degree (2-year felony)
• Ethnic Intimidation (2-year felony)
• Trespass (30-day misdemeanor)
• Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property $1000-$2,000 (5- year felony)

Rodda is also charged as a habitual offender

Assisting with this incident was the Northern Michigan University Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette City Fire Department and UPHS-Marquette EMS.

The owner of the Kona mountain bike has been identified with the help of citizens who referred her to this posting. Thanks again for your assistance!

The Marquette Police Department is investigating the larceny of a Kona mountain bike. We have recovered the bicycle but are unable to locate the owner. Anyone missing a similar bike should contact the Marquette Police Department at (906) 228-0400.

Reference: 08/21/2026 Domestic Violence / Trespass – State Correctional Facility Arrest

On 08/20/2026 the Marquette Police Department (MPD) took a report of a domestic violence incident which had occurred several days prior at a well-established makeshift campsite on Marquette Branch Prison property. The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Drummond Smithson, who has resided in multiple states with the most recent being in the Marquette, MI area.

On 08/21/2026 the Marquette Police Department, with assistance from the Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Corrections, located Smithson at his campsite and arrested him without incident.

Smithson was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on the following charges:

• Domestic Violence (93-day Misdemeanor)

• Trespass - State Correctional Facility (4-year Felony)
