Thank you to everyone who came out to our fundraiser at the Pizza Ranch in Morton on Wednesday. As always it was a great turn out thanks to all of our wonderful citizens and supporters. We enjoyed waiting on and visiting with you and seeing so many familiar faces! We were able to raise $776 between what Pizza Ranch donated and donations from all of you. Thank you to Pizza Ranch for allowing us to hold such a great event each year!

Thank you to all of the men and women who have and continue to serve our great country!

Tuesday, May 26th, a few of our fire departments members had the honor to be a part of the return of 1 of many Greater Peoria Honor Flights.

On this particular flight was retired fire Chief Dave Amundson. Dave joined the Marquette Heights Fire Department in 1979 and retired as Fire Chief in 2015 which he held for 5 years. In his 36 years on the department he held the positions of Chief, Ass’t Chief, Captain, Rescue Lt, and Fire Inspector.

Dave was drafted into the ARMY in 1969. He completed basic training in Fort Bennington GA and AIT in Fort Belboir. He was sent to Vietnam in May of 1970 and returned in April 1971. He turned 21 in Vietnam. Dave was an 02 and Acetylene Specialist. His main duty was to transport (drove a truck) these chemicals.

Dave served 10 total years on the Marquette Heights City Council. He retired from CAT in 2008 with 35 years. Dave owned his own business with his wife, Kathy, from 2005 to 2018 and named it Deb’s Wheels after their late daughter. It was a wheelchair and scooter repair business.

Thank you Dave for your years of service!

It was a perfect day for department training! Thank you to the Creve Coeur and North Pekin Fire Departments for training with us. Drafting was the subject today.

Drafting: the process of using a fire engine’s pump to create a vacuum, drawing water from static sources like ponds, lakes, or portable tanks when fire hydrants are unavailable.

Prairie Grass Burn

2 of our third grade classes from Marquette Heights Grade School, Mrs. Heaton’s & Mrs. Medavarapu’s students attended the prairie grass burn last week at the bottom of Lasalle Hill. They learned why fire is an important part of the prairie grass life cycle. Jenny from the Marquette Heights Library educated the students on the history of prairie grass and the importance of it. The MHFD was on hand to control the burn and insure there was no spread.

Today the Marquette Heights Fire Department had the opportunity to celebrate Mrs. Miller’s first grade class. Every year at food basket time the Marquette Heights grade school holds a competition between classes to see who can bring in the most food. This is the class that triumphed and received a pizza party from the fire department. We are so thankful for these kiddos and thier parents who work so hard to bring in the most food and to all of the staff at the school for their participation and hard work each year.

Such a good looking class!
