Exciting day for Pocahontas County and the Pocahontas County Sheriff's Department.

On July 7. 2026, Sheriff Troy McCoy conducted a swearing in ceremony for three new Deputy Sheriff's to serve the citizens of Pocahontas County, WV.

Deputy Stephen Simmons.
Deputy Aleea Carr.
Deputy Sean Sharp.

These Deputies will start their initial training immediately and then will attend the WV State Police, Basic Officer Academy in August.

Exciting news for Pocahontas County.

Sheriff Troy McCoy would like to welcome Mark Walton to the Pocahontas County Sheriff's Department. Walton was sworn in as a deputy sheriff on April 27, 2026, by Sheriff McCoy.

Walton will begin his training by attending the West Virginia State Police Basic Police Academy starting on May 4, 2026. After graduating the academy, he will start his Field Training Program and begin his service to the citizens of Pocahontas County.

Last week we posted pictures of a suspect in an attempted burglary in the area of Buckeye, Pocahontas County. We have also received video surveillance of another burglary that our deputies are currently working. The suspect in this current burglary, appears to the be same as in previous crimes. We are currently following up on leads on these crimes and want to thank the community for their assistance.

Deputies from the Sheriff's Department are seeking assistance from the community in identifying a suspect in an early morning attempted burglary. The suspect, a white male, was wearing a face covering and driving a newer model Ford F150 truck. If you have information regarding this subject, please contact Chief Deputy M.
