Shortly after 9 PM last night, members of the MVFD were alerted to a vehicle fire on the off-ramp of RT 2 Exit 13 (formerly Exit 12). Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle fully involved off the right shoulder of the roadway. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and secured the scene while the off-ramp remained closed. Thankfully, the sole occupant was able to exit the vehicle safely prior to our arrival.

At 10:54 this morning, members of the MVFD were dispatched to a single-car rollover motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment on South Rd.

Upon arrival, crews found one vehicle on its side requiring stabilization for the safe extrication of one victim and a dog. Members worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle and safely remove both occupants.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. We are also happy to report the pup was uninjured. Great work by all responding personnel.

This morning, members of MVFD hosted a joint town drill on a beautiful day. Members focused on hose advancement, fire extinguishment, search operations, and roof ventilation techniques.

Training with our neighboring departments is imperative. During large-scale incidents, we rely heavily on each other for manpower, apparatus, and teamwork to successfully mitigate emergencies and keep our communities safe.

Thank you to all the departments and members who attended and took the time to train together!

Last night members of the MVFD trained on the new Paratech vehicle stabilization struts recently purchased by the department. Training focused on proper deployment, stabilization techniques, and working safely around vehicles involved in motor vehicle accidents.

Vehicle stabilization is one of the most critical parts of auto extrication. A properly stabilized vehicle helps prevent unexpected movement during rescue operations, protecting both the patient and emergency personnel while allowing crews to work more efficiently and safely. As vehicle technology continues to evolve, it is important that our members continue training with modern equipment and techniques to provide the highest level of service to our community.

We are proud of our members for continuing to dedicate their time to training and preparedness so we are ready when our community calls.

A big thank you to Tony at Belltown Recycling - Fowlers Auto for allowing us access to his yard and letting us use his cars.
Thank you to Strategic Safety Dynamics for doing an in service training!

This week, members of MVFD trained on roof operations, including ladder throws and roof ventilation. We’ve been given a rare opportunity to train in a commercial building before it is torn down, allowing for valuable hands-on experience in a real-world setting.

We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and plan to take full advantage of it in the coming weeks to sharpen our skills and better serve our community.

Looking to give back? Volunteer fire service here in Connecticut plays a critical role in keeping our communities safe. It’s a rewarding way to serve your neighbors, build valuable skills, and be part of a strong team. MVFD is a 100% volunteer department, and all training is provided come see what it’s all about!
