For Immediate Release

June 8, 2026

Box Culvert on Route 124 in Troy

A temporary closure and 67-day detour will impact traffic on Route 124

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will begin roadway reconstruction on Route 124 in Troy on June 22,2026 through August 28, 2026.

The purpose of the project is to replace the three failing corrugated metal pipes that convey flow under Route 124 at Perkins Pond. A 16 inch by 7-inch precast concrete box culvert will replace the metal pipes.

The project is located on Route 124, beginning approximately 0.1 miles north of the intersection of Route 124 and Monadnock Street. During the closure, road users will be detoured via Monadnock Street to Route 124, then along Marlborough/Troy Road before reconnecting with Route 124.

Work will consist of reconstructing approximately 1,271 feet of Route 124, constructing the box culvert, upgrading drainage infrastructure and replacing guardrail.

To accommodate construction activities, Route 124 will be closed to traffic and a signed detour will be implemented beginning June 22, 2026, for approximately 67 days. Following the detour period, the roadway will be reopened to one-lane alternating two-way traffic controlled by flaggers for the remainder of the project.

Message boards, traffic control devices, and detour signage will be used to notify the traveling public. Road users are also encouraged to sign up for free, real-time construction and traffic-related messages (text or email) from https://newengland511.org/.

Neil H. Daniels, Inc. of Ascutney, Vermont is the contractor for the $2,264,477 project, which is scheduled for completion on October 16, 2026.

NEWS RELEASE: PICKUP DRIVER DECEASED AFTER CRASH INVOLVING SCHOOL BUS IN MARLBOROUGH

MARLBOROUGH, N.H. – One person is deceased following a crash involving a school bus in Marlborough.

Just after 7 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2025, State Troopers assigned to the Troop C barracks responded to a reported crash involving a school bus and a pickup truck on Route 12, near Webb Depot Road, in Marlborough. When Troopers arrived, they found a serious collision had occurred and determined the driver of the pickup was deceased.

The preliminary investigation has determined a school bus, driven by James French, 77, of Keene, was traveling north on Route 12 when it was struck head-on by a red 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck, driven by David Peloski, 74, of Swanzey.

Thirteen children from the Monadnock Regional Middle High School were on board the school bus at the time of the crash. While some students were taken to an area hospital as a precaution, no serious injuries were reported. French, the driver of the school bus, was also transported to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Peloski was the sole occupant of the pickup. His body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit have responded to the scene and assumed lead of the investigation. Members of the Marlborough police and fire departments are also providing assistance.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not already spoken with investigators, as well as anyone with additional information that may assist the investigation, is asked to contact Trooper Eric Torrens at [email protected].
