In light of recent questions and concerns surrounding the Request For Proposals for the provision of Visitor Services, we have identified a few key areas that we would like to provide clarification on.

The RFP for Visitor Services was made publicly available in January of 2026 (https://www.mariposacounty.gov/bids.aspx?bidID=217) available for submission until it closed on February 27, 2026, a similar RFP was released in 2021. All received proposals receive equal review and are then submitted to the Board of Supervisors for direction and final decision. All of that considered no contracts have been awarded or determined at this time.

We recognize that a well operated Visitor Center is key to maintaining a positive visitor experience and supporting a growing economy. As outlined in the request for proposals, any applicant must demonstrate the ability and desire to collaborate with local community groups, provide a local brick & mortar location, and provide strategic objectives focused on advancing Mariposa County.

There is no intention to remove or no longer provide a Visitor Center in the heart of Mariposa County, with local knowledge and experience at the forefront.

Services provided by any group or company will remain local, and we welcome creative solutions and collaboration.

The Board of Supervisors meeting on May 12th will provide an opportunity for the Board to hear public concern, answer questions, and consider the options. All submitted proposals will be available for review in the Agenda Packet, to be released on Thursday, May 7th. We welcome public participation in this matter.
