Please stay off the roads, if possible. Residual moisture on roads and freezing temperatures may cause black ice to form. Bridges will ice over before roads.

A cold weather advisory has been issued for all of Perry County from midnight tonight to 10 AM Monday morning. Current temperatures are in the mid 30s with the potential to dip into the upper 20s.

What: Very cold wind chills as low as 2⁰ expected.

Impacts: Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.

Perry County warming stations will be open tonight until tomorrow morning. A list of the warming stations is pinned to our feed. Stay warm and safe tonight.

Back-to-school means back to bus safety! Remind your child to play it SAFE at the bus stop:

-Stay at least ten feet — five giant steps — away from the curb.
-Always wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the bus driver signals for you to board.
-Face forward after finding a seat on the bus.
-Exit the bus after it stops and look left-right-left for cars before crossing a street.

Take our survey to share your school zone and general road safety concerns! http://www.bit.ly/Perry-SS4A
