Beginning Wednesday June 24, 2026, asphalt work will begin on the following streets in Marion:

Country Club Dribr – 16th Street to 24th Street

16th Street – Brockman Avenue to Country Club Drive

Maplecrest Drive – 15th Avenue to Country Club Drive

These sections of roadway will be closed to through traffic during construction. Flaggers will be present to assist local traffic during working hours. This work is expected to take up to three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Additional notices will be sent as the project progresses and this work will not impact traffic on McGowan Boulevard.

Marion, we’ve heard you, loud and clear. Too many motorists, locally, are still using their phones while driving and you’ve had enough of it.

 So have we. 

Rest assured, another round of directed enforcement is coming to the streets of the 52302, this week, to target this illegal behavior.

On Tuesday, June 23, 10th Street will reopen to traffic. Crews will then begin working on 29th Avenue between 10th Street and Indian Creek Road.

29th Avenue will be closed to both directions of travel. The detour will route traffic to 10th Street and Indian Creek Road as shown in the map below.

This phase is expected to take 4 weeks, weather permitting.

Between Sunday, June 21st, and Thursday, June 25h, the mobile speed enforcement vehicle will be located in the 5400-block of Kacena Avenue, westbound.

It will be on the other side of the street in KACE you missed it last week.

Between Monday, June 15th, and Thursday, June 19th, the mobile speed enforcement vehicle will be located in the 5400-block of Kacena Avenue…in “Kace” you’re in that area.

The Uptown Marion Market returns this Saturday, June 13, from 8 a.m. to noon. Residents and visitors are reminded to be aware of localized road closures that will be in place to accommodate the event.

Seventh Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets will close at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 13 for vendor move-in and will remain closed until 1 p.m. on Saturday. Detours will be posted.

Parking is available on-street surrounding the event and in the six City-owned lots within the district.

Roechelle’s dedication to serving others, strengthening community partnerships, and helping bridge the gap between public safety and behavioral health has made a lasting impact on our community. We are grateful for her commitment, compassion, and the positive difference she makes every day.

Congratulations to Roechelle Wilcox, our law enforcement liaison with the Marion Iowa Police Department, for being honored as a 2026 HER Women of Achievement with The Gazette!

"Roechelle Wilcox is a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who has dedicated her career to serving others and strengthening her community. For the past three years, she has served as a law enforcement liaison with Foundation 2 Crisis Services in partnership with the Marion Police Department, helping bridge the gap between public safety and behavioral health systems.

Roechelle holds a bachelor’s in criminal justice and a master’s in business, along with several professional certifications. With more than 15 years of experience in human services, she is known for her compassion, dedication and commitment to supporting individuals in times of need.

Outside of her professional role, Roechelle continues to serve others while enjoying time with her family, attending sporting events, reading, building LEGO creations and pursuing lifelong learning. She and her partner, Michael, also recently launched a small sports trading card business.

Roechelle’s passion for helping others is evident in all she does, making a meaningful impact on both individuals and the broader community."

Yesterday, the HigHER Women's Collective had their meeting here at the Marion PD.

Those in attendance were taught defensive tactics by our very own Officer Maloney and Sgt Hunter.

On Wednesday, June 10th, the City will close the intersection of 1st Avenue and 22nd Street, as well as 22nd Street from 1st Avenue to 3rd Avenue, to continue work on the 1st Avenue Reconstruction Project.



This major reconstruction project includes the replacement of sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, and street paving. The goal is to complete the 1st Avenue work from 19th Street to 22nd Street, including the 22nd Street intersection, by mid-August.



Reconstruction of 22nd Street from 1st Avenue to 3rd Avenue will continue beyond mid-August and is expected to extend into October, weather permitting.
