Peace Officers Memorial Day 2026

This morning, five members of the Marion Police Department proudly conducted the 1st Annual Constable Peter B. Martin Memorial Run.
The officers ran a route through the Uptown district while wearing weighted vests to honor the heavy burden shouldered by law enforcement and to commemorate the fallen officers of this past year and throughout our nation’s history.

During the run, participants paused to remember Constable Peter B. Martin. They read his memorial from the Officer Down Memorial Page and observed a moment of silence for all officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and our country.

Constable Martin was shot and killed on October 23, 1905, while serving a writ of ex*****on in Cedar Rapids. At that time, the Marion Police Department operated under the Constable and City Marshal system, long before the establishment of our modern police department.

Today, we honor their service, their sacrifice, and their lasting legacy.
