We are seeing an increase in scam calls, and unfortunately, many people panic in the moment instead of stopping to think. Knowing the warning signs can help protect you.

If something feels off, hang up immediately.

Your bank’s fraud department may contact you if there is suspicious activity on your account. However, if you are ever unsure whether a call is legitimate, do not stay on the line. Hang up and contact your bank directly or visit your local branch.

Bank employees can quickly verify whether the call was real—there will always be a record if it was legitimate. If there is no record, it was likely a scam.

MCSO is working with local banks to help keep our community safe, but staying cautious and verifying information yourself is one of the best defenses
