Smyth County Department of Social Services will close at 12 noon on Friday, Sept. 4 and will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026 in observance of Labor Day.

To report a CPS or APS issue during this time please contact the hotlines: for CPS 1-800-552-7096 and for APS 1-888-832-3858. Should you need a replacement EBT card, you may call 1-866-281-2448.

A more secure EBT card is on its way to you this fall! 🔒

When your new SNAP EBT chip card arrives, you must activate it right away. Your old card will deactivate once you activate the new one, or 60 days after it is mailed.

Check your mail often. Activation instructions will be included in the mailer with your new card.

Big news for Virginia SNAP customers!
New EBT chip cards will begin arriving in the mail this September. Here’s what you need to know:

- New cards are more secure and help to protect your benefits from theft.
- Your balance will transfer automatically once you activate the new card.
- You must activate your new card as soon as it arrives.
- Your current card expires 60 days after your new card is mailed.
