What a great two days at the blueridgediscoverycenter!! 🌿🦫🐦🦎

7th-grade students from across the county literally got their hands dirty while exploring the amazing nature right in their own backyards!

Students investigated ecosystems and biodiversity through hands-on learning experiences with building beaver dams, birding, salamanders, collecting macroinvertebrates, and several other activities. Along the way, they explored adaptations, habitats, food webs, population interactions, watersheds, and the important role organisms play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. 🔎🌎 🌿

This month’s 4-H Homeschool Club meeting took place at Crab Orchard Museum in Tazewell!

Throughout the morning, members rotated from station to station while learning all about pioneer life. They sang the butter song, tried their hand at throwing axes, made lead bullets, and experienced so much more! 🪓🧈🏹

It was a fun, hands-on morning full of history, learning, and 4-H memories! We highly recommend scheduling a tour with Crab Orchard Museum and experiencing it for yourself!

A huge thank you goes out to our amazing Smyth County 4-H Rabbit Club volunteers for making this year’s rabbit show at the Rich Valley Fair such a success! 🐰

Our Rabbit Club has continued to grow, and we are so proud of the dedication, hard work, and excitement our youth members have brought to the program. From learning proper rabbit care and handling to preparing their animals for the show ring, these young exhibitors have worked hard!

Congratulations to all of our exhibitors who participated in the Rich Valley Fair Rabbit Show! We are excited to see how this club continues to grow and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Smyth County 4-H Rabbit Club. 🐇💚

This past Friday, our Homeschool Club had the opportunity to visit Buller Fish Hatchery for an incredible behind-the-scenes tour. The hatchery staff graciously showed us what goes into their day-to-day operations, from raising and caring for fish and mussels to supporting conservation efforts and stocking Virginia’s.

A huge thank you to the entire Buller Fish Hatchery staff for sharing their time, knowledge, and passion with us.
