Congratulations to Senior Police Officer Jordan Propst on being awarded the Traffic Safety Specialist Designation - Level 1.

On September 2, 2026, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation presented Law Enforcement Roadway Safety Awards and Recognitions to agencies across the Commonwealth during the 101st Annual Conference in Roanoke.

This designation is awarded to officers who completed specialized training in traffic safety including:

▫️Minimum 2 years of independent patrol/traffic experience
▫️Speed Measurement Radar & Lidar Operators Certification
▫️Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) certification
▫️Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) training
▫️Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training

Congratulations to the graduates of the 129th Law Enforcement Basic Class from the Southwest Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy! Among the graduates are three of our very own: Officers Travis Blevins, Joshua Haulsey, and Nathan Sherwood.

After completing an intense 20 weeks of training, these officers will begin their Field Training Program next week. We look forward to having them back serving the The Town of Marion, Virginia and utilizing their training to protect our community.

🚔 Marion Police Department is partnering with MADD Virginia for "Saturation Saturday" 🚫🍺

This Saturday, August 29, Marion Police Department is joining forces with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Virginia for “Saturation Saturday”, a powerful state and nationwide initiative to fight impaired driving ahead of Labor Day weekend. This coordinated effort aims to save lives by intensifying impaired driving enforcement during one of the year’s busiest travel periods, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

The Marion Police Department will be increasing our impaired driving traffic safety enforcement Saturday, August 29, 2026, to save lives and prevent injuries. Marion Police Department is one of the many agencies throughout Virginia participating in this effort to protect our community against impaired driving.

Since electric bicycles have been growing in popularity in and around the Town of Marion, we recently provided information regarding the usage of e-bikes on the roadway and prohibition of operation on sidewalks and paths within the Town of Marion. This was due to ongoing allegations of them being operated on sidewalks creating a danger to pedestrians.

There are many laws parents need to know before allowing their children to operate e-bikes in Virginia and the Town of Marion for not only their safety, but the safety of motorists.

The following Virginia Code sets age restrictions on the operation of Class 3 e-bikes:

§ 46.2-908.1. Electric personal assistive mobility devices, electrically powered toy vehicles, electric power-assisted bicycles, and motorized skateboards or scooters.

No person less than 14 years old shall drive any electric personal assistive mobility device, motorized skateboard or scooter, or class three electric power-assisted bicycle unless under the immediate supervision of a person who is at least 18 years old. An electric personal assistive mobility device may be operated on any highway with a maximum speed limit of 25 miles per hour or less.

Before allowing your child to operate an e-bike, parents should verify how the bicycle is classified, as different classes have different capabilities and legal requirements.

The Town of Marion Parking Garage, located at 113 E. Court St, will be closed for scheduled maintenance.

📅 Friday, August 21 at 10:00 PM through Saturday, August 22 at 4:00 PM

🚫 Parking will be prohibited inside the garage during this closure.

⚠️ Any vehicles remaining in the parking garage at the time of closure will be towed.

Notices have been posted in and around the parking garage area. Please plan ahead and make alternate parking arrangements during this time.
