We have had a couple of spots open up for our June 18th Summer Discovery Canning Fruit Jam Class. The class is June 18th from 1-4 in the Cooperative Extension Conference Room. Class is $5. Call 652-8104 to get info for signing up!

McDowell County 4-H is currently facilitating our annual 2nd grade chick embryology program in 2nd grades all across the county. We will go do our chick pick up on May 8th. We have two different opportunites for people wanting chickens. We will do a straight chick sale and a 4-H Youth Poultry Project. We are also planning a poultry showmanship class this summer to teach young people how to show their chicks (More info to come on this later) Please see the flyers attached and let us know if you would like to get into the chick game!

Today was the first day of our annual 4-H Safety Field Day. We had a great time with McDowell EMS, Marion Police Dept, Rutherford Electric, Marion Fire, NC Highway Patrol, Carolina West Shooting Club, 911 Communications and McDowell Animal Control. 6th Graders at West McDowell had a great time and we are looking forward to East McDowell and FCS tomorrow!

This week is . Let's highlight our 4-H professional for the Good he does to make McDowell youth beyond ready for the future. This past weekend, Chad with other staff & volunteers oversaw the 4-H State Shooting Sports Tournament. Close to 400 youth competed! Chad is a major force behind this tournament & other regional tournaments. Thank you, Chad, for the time you give to make sure our youth our !

Whew what a great summer we have had with McDowell 4-H. 4-Hers started out the summer going to the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte and ended it creek stomping in the South Toe in Yancey County. Over 3000 miles driven and more than 3000 smiles laughs and lifetime memories made. We hope everyone has a great school year and we can’t wait to do it again next summer!
