At Heart of Ohio Homeless Shelter, we are often asked: "What does success look like?"

Sometimes success happens in 30 days. Other times, it takes 23 years.

Since 2003, we have supported a female client who cycled in and out of the shelter system. To some, her story might have looked like a "revolving door." To us, it was a 23-year mission to ensure she never had to face the streets alone.

In 2026, our persistence—and hers—paid off. She is now successfully housed with permanent benefits. 🏠

This milestone proves that a "one-size-fits-all" approach to homelessness doesn't work. True impact requires:

âś… Low-barrier access: Keeping doors open regardless of past history.
âś… Relentless case management: Staying the course through every setback.
âś… The "Next Time" Philosophy: Understanding that the 10th or 20th visit might be the one that leads to a breakthrough.

We give second chances (and third, and fourth) because every person deserves a finish line.

✨Board Member Spotlight✨

This week we’re highlight Amy Huckaba!

From Amy:

🤍I joined the Heart of Ohio homeless shelter Board of Trustees in August of 2024, I currently serve on the personnel and health and safety committee.

🤍I work as a Housing Outreach Specialist for the Rapid Re-Housing and Homeless Prevention Programs at Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission.

🤍I joined the board because I see people in my office every day that are struggling to find housing stability. I have gained valuable insights to obstacles that unhoused people face, and I would like to offer my help to the Shelter so we can give the residents the best outcome possible.

🤍In my free time I like visiting state parks and being in nature. I also like spending time with my family and taking my grandkids on little adventures.

Please help up thank Amy for her hard work and support!
