***Important!*** Prevent Frozen Pipes While Gas Is Out:

Due to the current loss of natural gas service in the Village of Marion, some homes may experience a drop in indoor temperatures.

If your home is becoming cooler than usual, we recommend allowing a small, pencil-sized stream of water to run from one or more faucets. Keeping water moving through your pipes can help reduce the risk of freezing and potential pipe damage.

Additional tips:
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Keep interior doors open to promote airflow
• If possible, use alternative safe heating sources

Thank you for your patience and understanding while Consumers is working to restore service as quickly as possible.

***Village of Marion – Warming Center Available**
The Village Hall Community Room is now open and available as a warming center for any Village of Marion residents while Consumers Energy works to restore natural gas service.
At this time, we do not have an estimated timeline for full restoration. Consumers Energy crews will be working throughout the night to restore service as safely and quickly as possible.
If you or someone you know needs a warm place until gas is restored, please come to the Village Hall Community Room, at 118 E.Main Street.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and will continue to share updates as we receive them.

Update #3
Here is the latest statement from Consumers Energy….

Consumers Energy is restoring service this morning to about 500 natural gas customers in Marion who were affected by an equipment issue at a gate station Wednesday. Service workers will be going door-to-door through the day to relight appliances.

“We appreciate the patience of our customers as we’ve worked quickly to safely return normal service to the community. We have started to get the heat back on and look forward to working with our customers throughout the day to assist in relighting appliances,” said Holly Bowers, Consumers Energy’s vice president for gas engineering and supply.

Consumers Energy service workers are visiting each affected home and business today. They will be working at meters and knocking on doors, offering to relight appliances. If no one is home, they will leave a tag on the door with instructions to call Consumers Energy and arrange another visit. Workers will remain in the community the next few days to respond to customers.

We also want to remind customers of these important safety tips:
Let faucets drip slightly to help prevent pipes from freezing.
A Consumers Energy employee who comes to your door will wear a company identification badge, and will gladly show it upon request.
If you smell natural gas (a rotten‑egg odor) or suspect a leak:
Leave the area immediately.
Go to a safe location outdoors in fresh air.
Do not try to locate the source of the leak.
Do not use any electrical devices, including phones.
Once safely outside, call 9‑1‑1, then Consumers Energy at 800‑477‑5050.

Update #2…..
Please see the press release from Consumers Energy below regarding the current situation…

“Consumers Energy crews are responding to an equipment issue at our natural gas gate station in Marion (Osceola County). About 500 customers will experience impacts to their natural gas service as a proactive safety measure.

Our crews are onsite assessing the situation and determining next steps. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.

Consumers Energy asks customers to work cooperatively with natural gas crews who will be going door‑to‑door to safely inspect and shut off gas at each meter as needed. Once system conditions return to normal, our crews will return to restore natural gas service and relight appliances for affected customers.

We also want to remind customers of these important natural gas safety tips. If you smell natural gas (a rotten‑egg odor) or suspect a leak, please:
Leave the area immediately.
Go to a safe location, preferably outdoors in fresh air.
Do not try to find the source of the leak.
Do not use any electric devices, including phones.
Once safely outside, call 9-1-1 and then us at 800-477-5050”

Update of Marion Natural Gas Update #1….
At approximately 7:10 a.m. this morning, Marion Fire/EMS was paged to a reported structure fire on 5th Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure fully engulfed. The building housed equipment that feeds natural gas to the Village of Marion.
Consumers Energy has been contacted and has put a temporary bypass in place. At this time, gas service is still operating; however, there remains a possibility of service interruption.
We are continuing to stay in close communication with Consumers Energy and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Thank you to our Marion firefighters and first responders for their quick response this morning.g tj
