Today is the last day for early voting. The board of elections is open from 1-5 today. If you are voting on Tuesday, please remember to check your polling location as many have changed.

It would be an honor and privilege to earn your vote and serve as a Marion City Schools Board of Education member. I am ready to serve and lead in a new capacity – because everyone who knows me can agree that actual retirement is not in my DNA.

I also want to sincerely thank the other candidates in this race for running positive campaigns and not engaging in any form of negativity or partisan antics plaguing other communities. Thank you Tara Dyer For Marion City Schools Board, Geyer for Marion City Schools Board of Education, and Frank Volenik for Marion City Schools Board of Education for your dedication and passion for serving and representing ALL in the Marion City Schools.

Many Ohio voters will be casting a ballot in school board races during this election, but what do school boards actually decide? A lot!

School boards set budget priorities, which decides what kinds of classes or programs are funded, what and whether after-school programs a district will offer, and which schools get improvements.

They make district policies, too, like dress codes, or whether schools have law enforcement in the building, or what kind of disciplinary rules students have to follow.

School boards also determine curriculum materials, giving them power to ban certain books, choose textbooks that can elevate or ignore subjects, and telling teachers what they can and can't teach.

So make sure you research the candidates before you vote to know what their vision for your public schools! To see who's on your ballot, go to .org to get more info about the candidates.
