Wish we had better news for you, but yet another late season heat wave is set to impact our region this coming week. The heat starts to build into the region tomorrow, but then a weak front should provide somewhat cooler conditions on Monday. The peak of the heat looks to be Tuesday through Thursday. Latest trends appear to be slower breaking down the heat dome, so it’s quite possible the 90 degree temperatures continue into Friday and possibly even into next Saturday before relief finally arrives.

Another late season heat wave is forecast Tuesday through Thursday next week. High temperatures will reach the middle to upper 90s. Peak heat index values of 100 to 105 degrees are forecast each day. Forecast NWS HeatRisk levels of moderate to major. If you have prolonged outdoor activities planned during this time, consider preparing alternate arrangements or heat mitigation plans.

Shower and thunderstorm activity is projected to increase late this afternoon and continue through the evening hours. The greatest potential for any strong to severe storms will be across southern portions of the forecast area from the Missouri Bootheel to the Southern Pennyrile. Damaging winds would be the severe weather hazard.
