K9 Viking and Deputy Griffin had an eventful evening at Presidential Post Acute for the Paws, Chips, and Charity Casino Night! Residents, staff, and community members came together for a night of fun, games, and generosity—all for a great cause.

Thanks to everyone who participated as the proceeds from the event will go directly to the Marion K9 Project with this year’s mission of helping provide a service dog to a veteran in need. 🇺🇸🐕

We were proud to have one of our K9 teams, along with Lt. Elliott and K9 Ranger stop by and meet residents, share what they do, and highlight the use of police service dogs in the community. Moments like these remind us how powerful community support can be.

A huge thank you to Presidential Post Acute for hosting such a meaningful event and to everyone who donated, volunteered, and helped make the night a success.

Together, we’re helping our nation’s service members- one paw at a time. 🐾

We’d like to extend our sincere appreciation to American Legion Post 162 for their generous donation to our K-9 Program!

Aside from vehicles and issued equipment, our K-9 unit is funded entirely through the support of community partners like you. Contributions such as this directly impact the purchase, care, training, and readiness of these dogs who serve and protect alongside our deputies every day.

Your continued commitment to both our K-9 team and the community we serve truly does not go unnoticed — thank you for standing with us!

We would like to thank American Legion post 162 for their $5000 donation to our K-9 unit!

Today we grieve the loss of a fallen brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our family members at the Morrow County Sheriff's Office as they deal with an unspeakable tragedy. As He makes clear in Psalm 23:4, we take comfort in knowing that God offers His protection and presence, even in difficult times such as these.

On May 19th, 2025 around 7:39pm the Marion Special Response Team (MSRT) was utilized regarding an already ongoing situation involving a male who was barricaded and armed with a knife and a hammer in the area of Elk Avenue. After a substantial amount of time was spent trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution, the Special Response Team was deployed to further attempt contact within the home and facilitate the resolution. K9 Viking II and the Marion Special Response Team were able to locate the male in deep concealment of the crawl space, and K9 Viking II was able to negotiate a peaceful surrender with the male.

After the male was detained and the scene was secured, a knife was located in the exact area where the male was concealed. Incidents like these demonstrate the crucial role police service dogs within the Marion Community play in chaperoning the peaceful surrender and deescalation of subjects.

Today presented an excellent opportunity to collaborate with agencies that we do not typically interact with on a daily basis. This complex operation involving aviation units, detectives, perimeter teams, dispatchers and the arrest team led to the successful and safe apprehension of the suspect. We are grateful for the cooperation and support of our law enforcement partners near and far as well as for the supportive communities we all serve.

All, please see attached media release regarding an incident in the village today. I apologize for getting this out late, but I'm the same officer that was involved with this today, so I just got the opportunity. Thank you, Chief Hill.

We would like to extend our condolences to Det. Lowe of the Marion City Police Department as his retired police service dog, K9 Stash, passed away peacefully yesterday at his family’s home.

Stash was a phenomenal example of what a detection dog should be, and he set the bar high for many more dogs to come.

We love you and miss you our faithful partner.

This past week K9 Viking-II and his handler spent time at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in Indiana working with many officers and trainers from throughout the country; who all have the same goal of developing better service dogs for our communities.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office prioritizes continued education for all deputies to ensure we provide the highest level of service to our community. This push for education also includes our furry four-legged deputies.

This training is critical for enhancing deescalation skills, identifying and correcting detection work flaws, providing hands-on experience behind the dog, and building better dogs that will ensure the safe apprehension of dangerous suspects who combat arrest efforts.
