🚲 Know the Rules: E-Bikes in the Town of Marion ⚡️

State E-Bike Classifications (VA Code § 46.2-904.1):

Class 1: Pedal-assist only up to 20 MPH

Class 2: Throttle-assisted up to 20 MPH

Class 3: Pedal-assist up to 28 MPH (Helmets required for all operators & passengers)

Motors cannot exceed 750 watts

The Town of Marion, Virginia Local Ordinances:

🚦 Operators on roadways must follow all standard traffic laws, signs, and signals (Sec. 74-6).

🚫 NO Sidewalk, Crosswalk, or Shared-Use Path Riding: Operating e-bikes, bicycles, motorized scooters, or skateboards on town sidewalks, crosswalks, or shared-use paths is strictly prohibited within town limits. Keep it on the roadway! (Sec. 74-17)

🔥 Burn Law Update – Smyth County, Virginia 🔥

The Virginia 4:00 p.m. Burn Law has been lifted, and the seasonal restrictions on open burning have ended.

The Smyth County Board of Supervisors and the Director of Public Safety, reminds residents that while the statewide burn law is no longer in effect, everyone should continue to use caution when conducting any outdoor burning. Dry conditions and changing weather can still create a significant wildfire risk.

Before burning, please:
✅ Burn only when weather conditions are safe. Avoid burning on windy or exceptionally dry days.
✅ Keep burn piles small and well away from homes, buildings, vehicles, woods, and other combustible materials.
✅ Have a water source, shovel, or other fire suppression tools readily available.
✅ Never leave a fire unattended, and ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving the area.
✅ Burn only natural vegetation. Do not burn trash, tires, plastics, or other prohibited materials.

Residents are encouraged to remain aware of changing weather conditions and any future burn bans or restrictions that may be issued due to drought or elevated fire danger.

By taking a few extra precautions, we can help protect our homes, our first responders, and the beautiful natural resources of Smyth County.

BRUNSWICK LN is now closed to all through traffic until the conclusion of the Fireworks Show at approximately 11:00 PM tonight.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, expect traffic delays, and utilize alternate routes while traveling through the area.

THE WATER CONSERVATION NOTICE IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

Previous notice listed below

There is a need for water conservation after equipment malfunction in Watson’s Gap, affecting Watson’s Gap, 613, Beaver Creek, Crosslink, Upper Poore Valley and Rich Valley areas on June 24, 2026. Residents are urged to voluntarily reduce nonessential water use to avoid depleting water for all customers.

Therefore, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, CONSUMERS ARE ADVISED TO REDUCE NONESSENTIAL WATER USE.

Voluntary conservation steps to take:
• Limit outdoor use: Restrict lawn and garden watering, restrict filling swimming pools.
• Reduce household use: Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads and turn off faucets while brushing teeth.
• Fix leaks: Check and repair household leaks (faucets, toilets) promptly.


Thank you for your help during this time to ensure your household and your neighbors’ household have enough water for essential use until this issue is resolved.

You will be notified when water conservation notice has been lifted.
