Town of Peshtigo Fire Department The official Town of Peshtigo Fire Department page. Fire Department Information

The Town of Peshtigo Fire Department was established in 1964.

The department provides emergency services to over 4,000 residents in the 75+ square mile area of the Town of Peshtigo. The Fire Department is authorized by the Town Board and is operated at the direction of a Fire Chief. The Town of Peshtigo Fire Department is a volunteer department and its firefighters are on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year. Fire personnel are alert

ed to a call through a radio paging system. Each member carries a pager and is ready to respond at a moments notice. Firefighters receive nominal compensation for responding to emergency calls, but volunteer their time for all training, meetings, and work details. A retirement fund has also been established to provide firefighters a small reward based on their length of service. We are your neighbors

Town firefighters come from all walks of life and live in your community. They are volunteers and hold regular jobs in addition to being firefighters. They are engineers, farmers, mechanics, electricians, mill workers, welders, truck drivers, and more. They are willing to drop whatever they are doing to help their neighbors at their time of need. WE NEED YOUR HELP! The Town of Peshtigo is looking for a few good men and women to become firefighters. Applications may be picked up at the Town Hall or from any firefighter. To be eligible a person must live within two miles of the Town borders, be a Wisconsin resident, be at least 18 years of age, physically able to perform firefighting, and pass a background check. A minimum of 60 hours of entry-level firefighter training is required and a probationary period must be served before becoming an active firefighter. The Town of Peshtigo Fire Department holds monthly meetings the first Monday of each month at 7:00pm. Persons interested in joining the fire department are always welcome to attend. Training is conducted by our State Certified Fire Instructors, who also instruct part-time for NWTC. In-house training sessions are held at the Town fire station the second Monday of each month. Numerous additional training sessions are scheduled throughout the year and are provided at no cost to the firefighters. State firefighter certification and numerous advanced level training courses are made available each year, and are encouraged for all firefighters. A number of Town firefighters have started out as volunteers, then later hired by neighboring city fire departments as career firefighters. Town firefighters are also enrolled as members of the Wisconsin State Firefighters Association, receive the Wisconsin Fire Journal, and insurance coverage. Emergency Responses

Town of Peshtigo firefighters were dispatched around 6:00 pm on Wednesday, June 10th to a residence along County Road BB for a lightning strike and shed on fire. The homeowner was able to extinguish the fire using a portable fire extinguisher, but the shed suffered extensive structural damage. The lightning was found to have struck underground electrical wiring, blasting a large hole in the ground with the surge causing a breaker box to be blown off the wall and heavily charred. The electrical surge also travelled along the underground wiring to the nearby garage where a number of wall outlets were heavily charred from electrical arcing. Firefighters checked the residence and attic for any fire extension using a thermal imaging camera but found none. An adjacent residence also suffered minor damage to electrical outlets, but no active fire was found.

Firefighters extinguished another small grass fire in the Town of Peshtigo Wednesday afternoon. A limb from a large oak tree came into contact with energized electrical lines causing sparks to fall to the ground igniting the dry grass. Due to electrical hazards and the possibility of powerlines breaking, the roadway was closed while the fire was being extinguished and until WPS could remove the burning tree from the powerlines.

Town of Peshtigo and DNR firefighters were dispatched around 4:30 pm Monday to extinguish a fire in a wooded area along County BB. The fire burned on both state and privately owned lands after escaping from a brush pile that had been burned earlier that day. Firefighters quickly controlled the spreading fire, but remained on scene for nearly two hours extinguishing hot spots. With continued dry conditions and high fire danger, residents are reminded to check the DNR website or 1-888-WIS-BURN for daily burning restrictions and updated fire conditions.

On Sunday, May 31st shortly after noon, Town of Peshtigo firefighters were called to a residence on Roosevelt Road in response to a carbon monoxide alarm. Upon entering the residence with multi-gas meters, firefighters found elevated C.O. levels of over 160 ppm in the basement. The source was traced to an older model gas boiler, which was heavily corroded, plugging the fan. Firefighters wearing self-contained breathing apparatus used ventilation fans to remove gases from the residence, and a local HVAC contractor was called to initiate repairs. WPS also responded to the scene to assist. No one was injured.

Fortunately, this resident had a working carbon monoxide alarm and alert family members who were quick to call 911 when they arrived home to check on their elderly parent.

On Sunday, May 17th at approximately 5:38 pm, Town of Peshtigo firefighters were diverted from an unrelated call on Rehms Road for a report of a chimney fire with visible flames showing at a residence on Rivers Edge Drive. Upon arrival, fire was found to have extended into the facade and interior walls surrounding the chimney so a MABAS working still was called which brought an additional engine company and chief from City of Marinette Fire Department to the scene. Due to difficulty accessing the fire and concerns about further fire spread, the call was escalated to a first box alarm bringing additional assistance from Grover-Porterfield Fire Department, City of Peshtigo Fire Department, and Pound Volunteer Fire Department. This additional response was cancelled prior to their arrival once the fire was contained. Town of Peshtigo and Marinette firefighters were able to extinguish all hotspots, remaining on scene until after 8:00 pm. Marinette ERS and Aurora Bay Area paramedics stood by during the incident but there were no injuries. Thanks to all our mutual aid partners and to Marinette County Dispatch for the excellent response and teamwork.
