Rainbow House collaborates with a number of community agencies throughout the counties we serve. Connecting victims to resources helps victims feel more safer and options to leave. We would like to highlight and thank those agencies this month for how they help support victims of domestic violence.
Let's start with law enforcement agencies. Law enforcement agencies help support victims by responding to calls, determine who the primary aggressor, ensure safety, connecting victims to resources that can help, refer charges to the District Attorney's Office to hold an abuser accountable when they break the law. They do follow up work to document the abuse with taking pictures of the abuse, collect evidence like text messages, letters, emails and more. They assist with enforcing no contact violations and restraining orders when violations occur and enforce family court orders. Domestic violence calls are the most dangerous calls for officers to respond to.
Rainbow House and all local and county agencies, in the counties we serve, have worked together to implement the Intimate Partner Violence Lethality Screening for Law Enforcement Officers. It determines if a victim is screened as high danger. Those victims are connected to Rainbow House right away.
Rainbow House also received a grant to provide law enforcement agencies with forensic cameras and training how to use to document abuse. These cameras can detect injuries the normal eye cannot see. This specifically helps with strangulation cases when you may not see bruising. Our local and counties agencies have jumped at the change to receives these and get the training to better assist victims of domestic violence.
We want to thank all those local and county law enforcement agencies we work with to help ensure victims of domestic violence feel protected ands heard.
