⚠️ Temporary Road Closure – Mayer Road ⚠️
Mayer Road has been temporarily closed as a detour route due to an unexpected incident shortly after construction began on the Shea & Starville roundabout project.
An unidentified truck pulled down telecommunication wires, breaking a utility pole in the process. DTE responded quickly and has stabilized the damaged pole; however, the wires are still hanging too low to safely reopen the roadway.
At this time, Mayer Road will remain closed until repairs are completed. DTE is expected to replace the pole within the next day or two, at which point the road can safely reopen.
We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as this issue is resolved. Please continue to follow posted detours and use caution when traveling through the area.

🌳 Shoreline Park Expansion Opportunity – Community Input Wanted
As some of you may have heard at the last Township Board meeting, I asked for and received permission from the Board to explore the feasibility of expanding Shoreline Park. After speaking with the DNR grant coordinator, I was encouraged to apply for a time-sensitive land acquisition grant through the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, which I have now submitted.

This is an exciting opportunity to acquire an additional 1.3-acre parcel directly adjacent to Shoreline Park and connected to the Bridge to Bay Trail. Expanding the park at this location would enhance public access, add green space, and further strengthen our connection to the regional trail system and Algonac State Park.
This will be a fast-moving process. The normal grant cycle closed on April 1st, but the DNR has asked us to move forward now so the project can be considered for approval as early as September, with potential finalization by December.

As part of this process, the Township would be responsible for a portion of the project cost. Based on current estimates, the local match for this acquisition could be approximately $125,000. In addition, the separate grant application already submitted for a pavilion and restroom facilities at the park is looking very promising, with a required local match of approximately $50,000.
While both of these commitments are manageable for the Township, they will require us to carefully allocate funds that were originally planned for future improvements.

đź’ˇ Community Input & Potential Support
Before bringing forward any additional funding options, I wanted to reach out directly to the community.
If there is strong interest, I would consider bringing forward an option for a community-supported contribution program to help offset the required matching funds.
Community support could allow us not only to complete the acquisition, but also to accomplish additional enhancements and improvements that may otherwise need to be delayed.
I am open to all ideas on how the community would like to be involved, including how contributions could be recognized. One idea could include a dedicated monument or recognition sign within the park, but I would like to hear what the community feels is appropriate.

📣 Let Me Know Your Thoughts
At this stage, I am simply looking for feedback:

Is this something you would be interested in supporting?
How would you like to see donations recognized, if offered?
Do you have other ideas for community involvement?

Your input will help determine whether I bring this forward to the Township Board as a potential option.

This is a great opportunity for our community, and I appreciate any feedback as we explore the best path forward.
