Last night, Robert Jeffrey III (27) of Monterey was contacted during a traffic stop in the 100 block of Reservation Road. During the traffic stop officers observed an axe in the car. A records check revealed he was on active probation with terms not to be in possession of dangerous weapons. During a subsequent search of the vehicle officers discovered an unregistered loaded Ghost 9mm handgun underneath the drivers seat.The driver was booked into the Monterey County on several charges which included firearm related crimes. Marina Police are committed to keeping the community safe. Thank you to our officers for taking one more illegally made gun off the street and out of the hands of individuals prohibited from possessing weapons.

The Marina Police Department had the honor of participating yesterday in support of the Special Olympics Torch Run. Not only did we run, but the South Bay Regional Public Safety Academy Class proudly ran alongside us!

Known as the “Guardians of the Flame,” law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into Opening Ceremonies for local competitions, as well as State, Provincial, National, Regional, and World Games. Each year, more than 97,000 law enforcement members participate in carrying the “Flame of Hope.”

The flame symbolizes courage, inclusion, and the celebration of diversity, uniting communities around the globe. Over the years, the Law Enforcement Torch Run has expanded to include numerous fundraising efforts, raising more than $600 million in support of Special Olympics programs since its beginning.

We are proud to support such an inspiring organization and the incredible athletes who continue to inspire us all.

Marina Police Department reminds everyone to wear your seatbelt!

A seat belt can be the difference between walking away from a crash and never making it home.

From May 18–31, the California Highway Patrol will participate in the national Click It or Ticket campaign with increased seat belt enforcement. Officers will be stopping drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled up.

Too many lives are lost each year because someone chose not to wear a seat belt. In a crash, being ejected from a vehicle is often deadly, and airbags alone are not enough to protect you.

Buckle up correctly every trip:
✔️ Shoulder belt across your chest
✔️ Lap belt low across your hips
❌ Never behind your back or under your arm

This is just one of the scams currently occurring. Do not give anyone money!

Attention ! The City has seen an increase in fraudulent emails targeting residents and local businesses with pending development applications. Scammers are faking City emails to request permit payments via wire transfer.

Please remember:
• The City of Marina never requests payments through wire services.
• Official payments are only accepted through the Citizenserve online portal or in-person via cash or check.

If you receive an unexpected invoice or payment request for a City project, do not send funds. Instead, contact your assigned project planner or call the Community Development Department at (831) 884-1220 to verify the request.

During National Police Week 2026, May 10–16, the Marina Police Department honors the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and our nation.
As we observe Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, we remember the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave their lives protecting others. Their legacy will never be forgotten.
We also extend our gratitude to the officers who continue to serve with honor each day. # 1042
