Major VA Benefits Updates: What You Should Know

The VA has introduced three major updates aimed at making benefits more accessible for survivors and dependents:

• Faster & smoother claims – especially for disability and indemnity compensation.
• Streamlined application process – reducing red tape and improving efficiency.
• Broader, clearer access – to key programs like DIC, CHAMPVA, and VA healthcare.

If you're supporting a veteran family member or need to navigate these benefits, this is essential info. Learn more on VA.gov or visit Military.net for detailed guidance.

Share this with veteran families who need to know what this means for them.

Nothing about The Miranda House is ordinary—it was born from compassion and a powerful friendship, and it continues to shine as a beacon of hope.

Named in honor of Cristina Miranda—a devoted mother, fierce advocate, and radiant presence—the home embodies her spirit: welcoming, nurturing, and full of light. Cristina’s compassion and commitment to transforming lives inspired the creation of a place where justice-impacted men can rebuild with dignity and support.

Here, every detail is designed with intention:

A serene 15-bed sober living home nestled in Monterey County, offering structure, support, and shelter for healing.

A rich, caring environment with in-house programs like AA and NA meetings, life skills and job readiness workshops, somatic therapy, and even garden beds and a chicken coop—all fostering growth and community.

Thoughtful amenities including a meditation garden, home gym, and spaces crafted to promote tranquility and renewal.
Hers of CA

The support doesn’t stop at housing—The Miranda House offers a pathway to recovery and reconnection, rooted in love and community.

Thank you, Cristina Miranda, for your enduring legacy, and thank you to the team at HERS for bringing this vision to life. Your compassion and mission underscore what it means to truly empower another’s journey.

Big news for our veteran community: The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced several important updates for 2025 that will make a real difference for veterans and their families.

• Faster benefits for survivors & dependents – Survivors applying for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) or other survivor benefits can expect shorter processing times and improved support through the “White Glove Survivor Outreach Team.”

• 2.5% cost-of-living increase – Beginning January 1, 2025, VA disability compensation, pensions, DIC, clothing allowance, and other programs will receive a 2.5% increase in line with inflation.

• Lower VA life insurance premiums – Starting July 1, 2025, premiums for VA life insurance plans for service members, their spouses, and veterans will be reduced, making coverage more affordable.

These changes aren’t just policy updates—they mean more financial stability, faster assistance, and better access to benefits that veterans and their families have earned. If you or someone you know could benefit, now is a great time to review eligibility and get the process started.

Lightfighter Village: Homes & Hope for Our Veterans in Marina

We’re excited to highlight Lightfighter Village, a brand-new affordable housing community in Marina, CA—built to honor and support veterans and their families. Co-developed by EAH Housing and the Veterans Transition Center (VTC), this 71-unit residence opened in January and is almost halfway occupied already.

One veteran shared how life-changing the community has been:

“I was homeless for a year until the VTC rescued me… I would be dead. The feeling is wonderful.”

Key features include:

Access to food, clothing, transportation, counseling, substance use support, medical and disability referrals—all tailored to veterans’ needs.

On-site community perks: a large community room, pet wash station, fitness center, and meditation space, fostering healing and camaraderie.

Financial backing from CalHCD, HUD, Wells Fargo, project-based vouchers, and county subsidies, making this development both affordable and sustainable.

This project is not just about housing—it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and a fresh start for veterans.

Want to support or help a veteran gain access?
Get in touch with the Veterans Transition Center, which handles referrals and eligibility. Rent is income-based, typically capped at 30% of a veteran's income.
