Our 2025–2026 Annual Report Is Here!

We are excited to share the Washington Morgan Community Action Head Start & Early Head Start 2025–2026 Annual Report!

Each year, this report gives our families, partners, and community a look at the work happening throughout our program—and, most importantly, the progress being made by the children and families we serve.

This year, there is a lot to celebrate! During 2025–2026:

⭐ 195 unique children were served across Head Start and Early Head Start.
⭐ Children showed growth in every developmental area measured, including significant gains in literacy and mathematics.
⭐ 100% of children had an ongoing source of medical care by the end of enrollment.
⭐ 54 Head Start children with IEPs and 14 Early Head Start children with IFSPs received the services to which they were entitled.
⭐ Our most recent federal monitoring review found our program compliant in all six areas reviewed, with no findings, Areas of Concern, Areas of Noncompliance, or deficiencies.

Behind every number is a child learning something new, a family working toward a goal, and staff and community partners working together to help children thrive.

🖍️ Color Their Future Bright with Head Start! 🎨

It’s National Coloring Day, and we know preschoolers can turn a blank page into just about anything! 💛

At WMCAP Head Start, that same creativity and curiosity are part of learning every day. Children have opportunities to draw, create, explore, play, make friends, and build the skills they need for kindergarten and beyond.

🌈 TRY IT AT HOME: Color Hunt!

Grab a piece of paper and some crayons, then send your little explorer on a color hunt around the house or outside!

🔴 Find something red and draw it.
🟠 Find something orange and draw it.
🟡 Find something yellow and draw it.
🟢 Find something green and draw it.
🔵 Find something blue and draw it.
🟣 Find something purple and draw it.

Make it even more fun by asking questions along the way:

🔎 How many things can you find of each color?
🎨 Can you find something that has more than one color?
📏 Which object is bigger or smaller?
💬 What words can you use to describe what you found?

They’re practicing colors, counting, observation, vocabulary, and fine motor skills—all while having fun!

That’s learning through play! 🌟

👩‍🍳🍎 Little Chefs Can Learn BIG Things! 🥄👨‍🍳

It’s Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day! Whether they’re stirring, pouring, counting, or helping choose ingredients, the kitchen can be a great place for little ones to learn. 💛

At WMCAP Head Start, learning happens through everyday experiences, hands-on activities, and lots of opportunities to explore!

🍎 Healthy habits & nutrition
🔢 Early math skills like counting and measuring
📚 Language, vocabulary & following directions
🤝 Independence, teamwork & social-emotional skills
🎨 Hands-on learning & creativity
🧩 Services and support for children with disabilities
💛 Caring teachers who help every child learn and grow

🍎 TRY IT AT HOME: Easy Apple “Donuts”!

Celebrate with a snack your little chef can help make!
You’ll need:
🍎 Apple slices cut into rings
🥄 Yogurt or your family’s favorite spread
🍓 Toppings like berries, banana slices, raisins, or cereal

Let your little chef take over! An adult can slice and core the apple, then let your child spread and decorate.

Make it a learning activity, too! Count the apple slices, name the colors, create patterns with the toppings, compare sizes, and talk about different tastes and textures.

Learning can happen anywhere—even in the kitchen! 👩‍🍳💛

We still have preschool openings available in some locations!

Belpre Head Start Open House

Our new space is almost ready, and we can’t wait to welcome our kids! Before we officially open our doors, we’re inviting our families, community partners, and friends to come take a look.

Come tour our new Belpre Head Start facility, meet members of our Head Start team, and see the space where our children will soon be learning, playing, and growing.

It’s taken a lot of work to get here, and we’re excited to finally share our new space with the community.

📢 Labor Day Weekend Schedule Reminder! 🇺🇸

Families, please note a few schedule changes for the upcoming Labor Day weekend:

📅 Friday, September 4
🕛 WMCAP Head Start & Early Head Start will close at noon.
👶 There will be NO Early Head Start (EHS) classes on Friday.

📅 Monday, September 7
🚪 All Head Start & Early Head Start locations will be CLOSED for Labor Day.

📅 Tuesday, September 8
🎒 We will reopen at our normal time, and classes will resume as scheduled.

We hope all of our children, families, and staff have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend! ❤️💙
