What's in your bag?
September is National Preparedness Month. Prepare for severe weather, flooding, or worse, by putting together an emergency supply kit with items you may need in the event of an emergency.
Also, keep your insurance company phone number in a safe place where you can easily access it after a flood or fire.

Here are the top items to stock in your bag:
* Water (one gallon per person per day for several days, for drinking and sanitation)
* Food (at least a several-day supply of non-perishable food)
* Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
* Flashlight
* First aid kit
* Extra batteries
* Whistle (to signal for help)
* Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)
* Plastic sheeting, scissors and duct tape (to shelter in place)
* Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
* Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
* Manual can opener (for food)
* Local paper maps
* Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

Cobb County recently welcomed Mayor Kyoo-il Jo and the Jinju City, South Korea, delegation for conversations focused on economic development, aerospace, innovation, entrepreneurship and tourism.

“Cobb County and Jinju City have much in common, particularly in areas like aerospace, innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Chairwoman Lisa Cupid. “I look forward to continuing this conversation and seeing where this new relationship can lead.”

The visit builds on a longstanding connection between Cobb County and Jinju City, providing an opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Saturday, Sept. 5 - Patriot Day Memorial Stair Climb at Truist Park. First responders from the United Kingdom and Ireland will join the 9 a.m. climb to honor the legacy of the FDNY 343. Open to the community. https://bit.ly/4qiyhLJ

Sunday, Sept. 6 - Memorial Stair Climb with Marietta Fire, 9 a.m. start, at Marietta Fire Station 51. Participants will climb 110 stories. Open to the community. https://bit.ly/3TdARqd

Friday, Sept. 11 - Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will hold a memorial service at 7:55 a.m. A Field of Flags display at the park will remain up until Sept. 19. https://bit.ly/4h6CQ8R

Friday, Sept. 11 - Smyrna Public Safety Foundation 9/11 Commemoration. A public ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. at Smyrna City Hall. Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.

Cobb libraries and most park facilities are also closed.
