Let's talk chip seal.
First of all, this is nothing new! ODOT has been chip sealing road for decades, and we've worked with our contractors to improve the process over the years.
Secondly, keep in mind that it's a multi-step, days-long process. But once it's fog sealed and markings are reapplied, many people can't tell the difference between an asphalt road and a chip sealed road.
It all boils down to preserving the life of the road in a cost effective way.
