The Democratic Party is the oldest political party in the United States and among the oldest political parties in the world. The Democratic Party of Georgia powered the state from the Reconstruction Period following the Civil War until 2003, when the Republican Party was given the opportunity to see what they could do to further Georgia into the 21st century. Instead of progressing Georgia forward
, this “experiment” proved disastrous to our citizens, which left a legacy of a 10.2% state unemployment rate, unfathomable local and regional transportation issues, unnecessary legal battles between neighboring states over one of Georgia’s precious natural resources, embarrassing “microchip in the brain” legislation, ethical issues surrounding high ranking elected officials, and over 3.6 billion dollars being stripped from the state budget from education causing teacher layoffs and school calendars to be reduced to 160 days in some counties. This “experiment” in politics was a complete and utter failure, and will end in 2010, with the Democratic Party regaining control of the Governor’s seat, and rescuing all of Georgia from the current catastrophe caused by the state’s current majority. The Cobb County Democratic Party is committed to keeping our state safe and expanding opportunity for every Georgian. At the national level, that commitment is reflected in an agenda that emphasizes the security of our nation, strong economic growth, affordable health care for all Americans, retirement security, honest government, and civil rights. The same commitment can be found at the state and county level, as well.
