The Washington County Board of Elections will be closed Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. We will be open again on Tuesday, September 8th at 8am.

A few important reminders as absentee ballot REQUESTS start hitting mailboxes.

1: This mailer is an APPLICATION, not a ballot.
2: Voter identification and signature are checked TWICE during the process, first when the absentee ballot is requested and again when the voted ballot is returned.
3: Only valid registered voters who request a ballot can receive a ballot, and only after their information is verified by bipartisan teams at the local board of elections.

Washington County Board of Elections is looking for poll workers for this upcoming November 3 election. If you are a professional needing to get CLE credits this is an easy way to do it. Are you in high school and want to see how elections are run, see your government teachers, packets are in the mail now.

Continuing Education for Other Professions
Professions such as CPAs, realtors, librarians and social workers can also earn continuing education credits by serving as poll workers. Please provide your professional association number when signing up, and the Board will send a confirmation for credit.

Youth at the Booth
You can change lives by helping young people understand the power of voting.

When even one student serves as a poll worker, they can inspire dozens of peers — research shows that young poll workers can increase youth voter turnout by up to 20%.

SECRETARY LAROSE EXPANDS STATEWIDE TRAINING PROGRAM TO INCLUDE CANDIDATE 101 COURSES

The Ohio Election Readiness Training Institute Now Features Public Trainings on Campaign Finance, How to Run for Office, and More

(Columbus) – Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced today an expansion of the office’s training platform to include publicly available training opportunities to help equip candidates with the resources to understand Ohio’s election process.

“The success of our communities depends on good people stepping up to answer the high calling of public service, and we want to make sure they have the tools they need to succeed,” said Secretary LaRose. “These convenient courses will help candidates confidently navigate the election process, comply with Ohio law, and focus on what matters most: earning the trust and support of the voters they hope to serve.”

New courses available to the public:

How to Run for Office: This training provides an interactive overview of the process to run for public office in Ohio.

How to File for Candidacy: This training demonstrates who can file for office in Ohio, the requirements for different offices in Ohio, and the best practices to ensure a candidate follows the correct process.

Campaign Finance for Candidates: This training helps candidates that are running for office best understand the campaign finance requirements, process, and best practices to ensure all guidelines and laws are followed when dealing with campaign funds and fundraising, and filing.

How Ohio’s Elections Work: This training provides a general overview of the entire process of elections in Ohio. From running for office to voting to volunteering, these course shows how your vote count and how elections are secure, accessible, and trusted. It’s also an opportunity for young Ohioans to learn the basics of participating in elections.

“The more informed candidates are about the process, the better it is for everyone involved in administering elections,” said Michelle Henricks, Deputy Director for the Williams County Board of Elections. “The Secretary of State trainings have become a useful resource for election officials, and we are excited they are expanding their resources to the public.”

These courses are an expansion of the Ohio Election Readiness Training Institute, which the office launched last year. This training platform features a modernized menu of course material focused on the legal requirements and standard operating procedures for administering elections. Each training module provides participants with interactive presentations that have been proven to increase knowledge and retention.

The Washington County Board of Elections has become aware of some confusion regarding County Commissioner candidate Justin Harris. Mr. Harris is running as an independent candidate for County Commissioner for the unexpired term ending 01/01/2029. Our office made an error on our 100 Day Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot (FWAB) listing Mr. Harris as a Republican. This error was resolved on 08/19/2026. Mr. Harris has voted a Republican ballot in a past Primary Election. However, his petition to run as an Independent was certified by the board on May 5, 2026, and he must represent himself as such. The 100 Day Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot (FWAB) is not a sample ballot and is not a final list of candidates or issues for the November 3, 2026 General Election. There will be a 46 Day FWAB posted to our website 46 days before the election. The FWAB is posted to serve as a backup ballot for Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voters (UOCAVA) who made timely application for, and did not receive, an absentee ballot. The FWAB allows UOCAVA voters to have a list of the candidates and issues for an election. UOCAVA voting begins 46 days before the Election (September 18, 2026). We will post our sample ballots to our website sometime in September. Ballots have not been finalized for the November 3, 2026 General Election.
