New nationally representative research conducted by the Addiction Policy Forum and Gallup found that nearly 1 in 4 U.S. adults either disagree or do not know that addiction is a health condition.

The nationally representative study, published in the Journal of Addiction Medicine, also found that individuals who do not recognize addiction as a health condition are significantly less likely to:

➡️ Believe substance use disorders are treatable by healthcare professionals
➡️ Believe medications can be an effective treatment for addiction
➡️ Take the initiative to help a loved one who is struggling with addiction

One of the hardest lessons grief teaches is that we always think there will be more time.

More conversations.

More holidays.

More ordinary afternoons.

More chances to say the things sitting quietly in our hearts.

But loss changes that.

It teaches us how precious the ordinary really was.

The quick phone calls.

The familiar routines.

The moments we barely noticed because we thought they would always be there.

If I had known how few tomorrows we had left, I would have held on longer.

Listened more closely.

Said "I love you" one extra time.

But grief also reminds me of something else.

Love isn't measured by the words we missed.

It's measured by the years we spent showing it.

And my son knew he was loved.

Every single day.

Even now, that love remains.
