💻 HAPPY IT PROFESSIONALS DAY!

If technology is working exactly like it should, there’s a pretty good chance Fred Andreasen and Lee Treadwell had something to do with it.

Our IT team supports more than 200 County employees across multiple departments, which means keeping up with a whole lot of computers, systems, passwords, updates, help tickets and those mysterious technology problems that somehow disappear the moment IT walks into the room. 🤔

And these days, IT is about much more than fixing computers. Cybersecurity is critical. Fred and Lee work behind the scenes to strengthen our systems, protect County information and infrastructure, and continually train employees to recognize evolving cyber threats.

Behind nearly every County department serving the public is technology that has to work, and Fred and Lee are the small but mighty team helping make sure it does.

Today, we’re giving some well-deserved recognition to the guys who keep us connected, protected and occasionally remind us to turn it off and back on again.

Thank you, Fred and Lee, for keeping Jackson County running in an increasingly digital world!

🇺🇸 25 YEARS LATER. WE REMEMBER.

Twenty-five years ago, September 11 became a date Americans would never forget.

For those old enough to remember that Tuesday morning, the memories can still feel remarkably close. You remember where you were, who you were with, the images on television, and the uncertainty of what would come next.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage of the first responders, service members and ordinary people who stepped forward to help others.

We also remember what followed: communities coming together. Neighbors helping neighbors. People finding ways, big and small, to serve one another.

Here in Jackson County, we know that strong communities are built in those moments, when we show up for each other. As we remember September 11, may we also ask ourselves how we can serve a neighbor, offer kindness, lend a hand or give back to the community we call home.

And as an entire generation has now grown up knowing September 11 only through the stories of those who lived it, we invite you to share yours.

Where were you on September 11, 2001? What do you remember most about that day, or the way people came together afterward?

Twenty-five years later, we remember. We honor. And we strive to take care of one another.

🏛️ Board Meeting Recap | September, 2026
Here’s a snapshot of key items discussed at the latest BOCC meeting. Read the full press release here 👇

• The Board adopted a tentative FY 2026-2027 millage rate of 7.9450 mills and a tentative budget of $102,492,012. Final adoption of the millage rate and budget is scheduled for September 22 at 6 p.m.

• Following public hearings, the Board approved the Anderson Columbia Borrow Pit Expansion, allowing an additional 77.5 acres of excavation, and a site plan modification for Graceville Correctional Facility to add three recreation yards with canopies, utilities and walking paths.

• A public hearing was set for September 22 at 6 p.m. for the first reading of proposed updates to the County’s Procurement Ordinance, replacing the purchasing ordinance originally adopted in 1989 and updating it to reflect current laws and County practices.

• The Board accepted an MOU with Endeavor Forward, Inc. establishing a 24-month roadmap toward greater operational independence while maintaining opportunities for continued collaboration between the County and Endeavor Forward.

• The County’s state lobbying services agreement with Alan Suskey of Shumaker Advisors Florida, LLC was renewed through August 31, 2027. The firm will continue assisting Jackson County with legislative priorities and advocacy before the Florida Legislature and Executive Branch.

• The Board approved the site dedication of Howell Landing through the Florida Boating Improvement Program. The site will remain dedicated for public use as a boating access facility for at least 20 years, helping preserve public access to Jackson County’s waterways.

• A Special Meeting was scheduled for November 17 at 9 a.m. for the swearing-in of the District 2 Commissioner and reelected District 4 Commissioner, along with selection of the Board’s Chairman and Vice Chairman for the upcoming term.

Our Jackson County Fire Rescue family is continuing to rally around Firefighter/Paramedic Chase Maddox and his family, and our community has another opportunity to help.

Jackson County Professional Firefighters Local 3043 is hosting a BBQ Fundraiser on October 9, with all proceeds going to Chase and his family as he continues his recovery. Orders are pre-sale only and must be placed by October 2.
