The Margate City Police Department was once again proud to stand side by side with the Margate City Fire Department as they commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

Each year we gather to pay our respects to the heroes lost that day, and to ensure that the words "never forget" continue to hold their meaning as a solemn reminder of our duty to ensure those sacrifices were not in vain.

Today, September 10th, was the graduation of Margate City's newest Police Officer, Dimitris Pali, from the Camden County Police Academy's 94th class.

Chief Hankinson, Lieutenant Marciante, and and Sergeant Fane were on hand to witness the ceremony, along with several members of Officer Pali's family who are also in law enforcement.

Officer Pali will now begin an extensive field training program where he will be expected to put into practice the lessons he learned during his time at the academy before taking on solo patrol.

Congratulations to Officer Pali and his family!

With the summer season winding down, residents and visitors are reminded that only permitted vehicles are allowed to be operated on the beach.

Starting September 28th, the 2026 Pat Erdman Memorial Atlantic County Surf Fishing Derby kicks off. Those who sign up for the derby may obtain a beach vehicle permit at the police department AFTER their derby registration is complete.

Derby registration will open on September 14th, but no vehicles may be on the beach until the opening of the derby, two weeks later, on September 28th.

In Margate, you can sign up at derby HQ, Scott's Dock. Once signed up, bring your derby information and your drivers license, vehicle’s registration and insurance documents to the Margate City Police Department to obtain your permit. All vehicles should be 4-wheel drive. You will need a permit from each participating town you wish to surf fish in, so please check with those towns for any additional requirements they may impose.

Students are heading back to school, and safety starts with all of us. New Jersey recorded approximately 16,000 school bus-related crashes from 2016 to 2024. Let’s watch for children walking and biking, follow school bus laws, and slow down in school zones.

Please avoid traveling in the area of an Essex and Wi******er Avenues. Downed wires have created the need for detours while utility company crews assess and repair the wires.

Please follow the direction of all emergency personnel and do not cross or disturb any caution tape that is up in the area. If you encounter any wires that are down, please treat them as if they were live and do not approach.

We do not have an exact ETA as to when power will be restored to affected homes and the area will be rendered safe, but crews are working as fast as possible.
