Black River Fire : Crews and aircraft are responding to a wildfire south of Wakefield, MI just east of County Road 519.

You will see smoke in the area and aircraft dipping out of local lakes. Please use caution and obey all traffic controls.

If you fly, we can’t! No Drones in Fire Zones. Any aircraft or drone that flies near a fire shuts down operations and puts the safety of everyone at risk.

Ontonagon; Gogebic

* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 002 Ontonagon and Fire
Weather Zone 009 Gogebic.

* TIMING...Until 6 PM EDT /5 PM CDT/ this evening.

* WINDS...Southwest 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 32 percent.

* IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread
quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures and
exceptionally dry fuels will create dangerous wildland fire
conditions. Campfires, outdoor grills, smoking materials,
fireworks, chain saws, and all-terrain vehicles all have the
potential to throw a spark and ignite a dangerous and destructive
fire.

Strong southerly winds, record warmth, severe drought, and dry conditions will create critical fire weather conditions across the far western UP this weekend. Red Flag Warnings are in effect for Ontonagon and Gogebic counties this afternoon through Sunday evening. Please obey local burn restrictions put in place by the Michigan DNR!
