Selover Library invites children with any disability that creates learning challenges to drop in to Selover Public Library on Tuesday, June 16 from 4:00PM until roughly 6:00PM for one-on-one conversations with our staff!

Selover Library is a recipient of an American Library Association (ALA) Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities grant of $10,000 to improve our services to children with any disability that creates learning challenges. Such disabilities could include, but are not limited to, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, hearing loss, vision loss, Down syndrome, depression, anxiety, PTSD, mobility disabilities, and cerebral palsy. If you believe that your child has a disability that makes learning more difficult and that your child has ideas of items our library could add that would help make learning easier, we want to speak to your child! These conversations are for children in grades PreK-12. We would like caregivers to attend with children and to help if children require assistance communicating, but please note that we want to hear from the children who will benefit from this grant: “Nothing about us without us!” Teens may attend on their own.

Individual conversations with children will be brief (10-15 minutes) unless your kid is a talker! We are offering a drop-in session anytime between 4:00-6:00 on Tuesday, June 16, in Selover Library’s downstairs community room. This space is accessible via an outdoor ramp. If your child would like to participate but cannot make this drop-in session, please contact Martha at director@ seloverlibrary.org to arrange a time before June 19 to have a conversation. An honorarium in the form of a gift card of up to $50, depending on the number of attendees, will be mailed to the child after the conversation. One honorarium per household.

Students in Mrs. Kent’s 7th grade science class ended the school year by learning about the important relationship between honey bees and flowering plants. Students observed bees, dissected flowers, and painted rocks for our pollinator garden outside the classroom window.
