Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. It was a day that changed the world as we knew it, and we remember the families whose lives were forever changed by loss.

We honor all the police officers, firefighters, medics, military, and civilians who stepped up to help, ran toward danger and the courage and sacrifice they showed in the face of tragedy.

25 years later, we continue to remember. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

CONGRATULATIONS: Today Chief Kjellgren attended Officer Lewandowski’s graduation from the basic law-enforcement academy at Southwestern Illinois College. Officer Lewandowski put in months of hard work, training, and dedication to complete this first step of his training. He will now return to Marengo to start his field training.

The Marengo Police Department is committed to the safety and security of our young people. This morning, we were made aware of information that a student had possibly brought a fi***rm to Marengo Community High School.

Our department worked quickly and closely with the school and have contacted the student and their family. The student was not in possession of a fi***rm.

There is no danger to the public and no information on the student will be released. We will have an increased presence around the school.

The Marengo Police Department and the Marengo area schools take these types of situations seriously. We’re proud of the close working relationship we have with the schools and our community. Remember, if you see or hear something, say something.

Last week, the much anticipated law was passed regarding the new rules on e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motos. This law does not go into effect until January 1st, 2027.

Take a look at the chart below for a synopsis of the new rules. Current rules in Marengo do not allow for e-scooters or e-motos on public roadways or sidewalks.

We've had many complaints about near-miss crashes due to unsafe operation of these types of devices. If you or your young ones use any of these devices, please check the rules and ensure they're riding safely.
