Saturday 9/12 members of the Maynard Fire Department had the profound honor of participating in the CNY 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, an annual event we are humbled to both sponsor and support.

President Debbie Monaghan, FF/EMT Dave Coriale and Past Chief Glenn Stevener proudly climbed up and down the Utica State Office Building, completing the symbolic 110 flights of stairs; a solemn tribute to the 343 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers and 8 EMTs who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Each step is more than a climb; it is a living reminder of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to duty.

Alongside them, Lieutenant Jacob Phelps, Lieutenant Steve Wright, FF/EMT Dave Coriale, and FF/EMT Marcas Walker proudly stood as Color Guard, holding our flags high in honor of the fallen. Their presence was a symbol of dignity, respect, and the deep bond that unites us across generations of firefighters.

We climb, we stand, and we remember, not only for those we lost on that tragic day, but for their families, their legacies, and the values they lived and died for: service, sacrifice, and love of community.

As firefighters, it is our duty and privilege to ensure that the memory of 9/11’s heroes never fades. Their stories continue to inspire us, guide us, and remind us why we put on this uniform. Today, and every day, we remember.

Never Forget. Forever Honor. 🇺🇸

This morning, our members were honored to stand alongside fellow first responders in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

Together, we walked in silence from The Whitesboro Volunteer Fire Department to St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where we gathered for Mass to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, selflessness, and sacrifice remain deeply rooted in the fire service. It was incredibly meaningful to see so many come together, not only to remember those we lost, but to carry forward the spirit of service and unity they left behind.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11th, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation. We pause to honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, the bravery of first responders who ran toward danger, and the resilience of families and communities who carry the weight of that day in their hearts.
For the fire service, 9/11 is especially profound. 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and 8 paramedics gave their lives in the line of duty, climbing stairwells and saving others until their very last moments. Their courage remains a guiding light for every firefighter who puts on the gear today.
May we always remember the extraordinary seltlessness and courage of the heroes of that day, and may we strive to live each day with that same spirit of bravery, service, and love for others.

There are some gestures that are difficult to put into words, and this is certainly one of them.

To our brothers and sisters at Yorkville Fire & Hose Co. Inc. and the entire Morosco family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To have a flag donated by the Morosco family now flying from Maynard’s Tower 1 in memory of Chief Nick Morosco is an honor that means more to our department than we could ever adequately express.

Chief Morosco left behind far more than a title or years of service. He left behind a legacy of friendship, brotherhood, dedication, and genuine love for the fire service and the people in it. Knowing how excited Nick was for Maynard when he learned that our department would be getting a Tower Ladder makes seeing his flag flying from it today incredibly special.

But perhaps one of the greatest reflections of Nick’s legacy is the family he left behind. The kindness, generosity, and friendship the Morosco family has shown us speaks volumes about the kind of man he was and the values he carried throughout his life. We are humbled that they chose to share something so meaningful with our department.

The fire service has a way of turning neighboring departments into friends and friends into family. Yorkville and the Morosco family are a beautiful reminder of exactly that.

Chief Morosco may no longer be here to see Tower 1 himself, but a piece of him will now ride with us. We will fly this flag with tremendous pride and always remember the man and the family behind it.

From all of us at Maynard, thank you. This is something we will cherish for many years to come.

The Maynard Fire Department was proud to once again stand by for SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s annual “Fire & Ice” tradition, welcoming the newest class of Wildcats to campus.

Each year, incoming students gather for this special tradition, lighting candles before casting them into a bonfire to symbolize new beginnings, unity, and the start of their journey at SUNY Poly. Our members were honored to help light the fire and remain on scene throughout the event to ensure everyone could safely enjoy the evening.

Thank you to SUNY Polytechnic Institute for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful tradition and for continuing to include our department in these memorable moments. Welcome to Marcy, Wildcats!
